      It’s the number of supporters….

“The latest data from Roy Morgan shows NRL Grand Finalist the Brisbane Broncos are Australia’s most widely supported NRL club for a second straight year with 1,271,000 supporters. The Broncos last played off in the NRL Grand Final two years ago in 2023 but have not won an NRL Premiership for nearly two decades, last tasting the ultimate success in 2006.

In a clear second place are the Broncos Grand Final opponent, the Melbourne Storm with 1,149,000 supporters, an increase of 31,000 (+2.8%) on a year ago. The Storm played off in last year’s NRL Grand Final and last won an NRL Premiership in 2020.

Both of this year’s NRL Grand Finalists are among the most successful Rugby League clubs of the last few decades. Since the New South Wales Rugby League (NSWRL) Grand Final moved to the Sydney Football Stadium in 1988 the Melbourne Storm (12 Grand Finals including this year) and Brisbane Broncos (9 Grand Finals including this year) will have played in more NSWRL/ARL/SL/NRL Grand Finals than any other NRL clubs.

The most widely supported Sydney-based club is the Sydney Roosters with 502,000 supporters, following an increase of 28,000 (+5.9%) on a year ago. The Roosters have played in eight Grand Finals since 1988 - more than any other Sydney-based club with their last Premierships won back-to-back in 2018 and 2019.

Amongst the Sydney-based NRL clubs in second place is the Parramatta Eels with 433,000 supporters, a remarkable feat for the club with a longer Premiership drought of any club – stretching back 39 years to 1986.”

I guess Roy Morgan doesn’t count dogs & cats. There was a bit more in the article, but I couldn’t stomach posting it.

Another reason why i hate the drongos. Their shit is everywhere on the gold coast. Being totally bombarded by neins 49% ownership of the drongos. Showing weece every second. Fmd. You wouldnt know who they are playing against on sunday. Love them to lose all 3. For those who dont know Burley bears are another of their feeders.

          Go worriers
          Go Roosters.

I think the New Zealand Warriors would have much more support than what the Ray Morgan's Poll says.

Kiwis love their teams no matter what sport

              All Blacks - Union
              Black Caps - Cricket
              Tall Blacks - Basketball
              Silver Ferns - Netball
              Kiwis - Rugby League
              Etc

They need to come up with a name for their football team as All Whites is the odd one out.

              Black Heads
              Black Boots
              Black ??

Quite strange that the All Whites name is often being debated as being racist but the All Blacks name is considered historic and untouchable as far as changing the name.

In US Sports you have seen Cleveland Indians become Cleveland Guardians and Washington Redskins become the Washington Commanders for an example.

Golly my Mum would have loved you! It even came up in her eulogy how she would cheer on any of our family members' teams apart from the Broncos for one of my sisters. She defiiantly followed the Blues despite being born in Qld as her reasoning was she didn't start watching footy until she moved to Sydney with my grandparents and her sisters when she was 7. Then whe she and Dad got married in 1948 and moved back to Qld, she refused to follow any teams apart from Sydney ones. Dad wasn't alive when the Broncos formed either so I was spared. I do see plenty of Roosters fans around though anytime I do go up to the Tweed Coast. I've been working out of our Kogarah office sometimes with my manager who lives in the area and I have seen people in Roosters hats and Bondi T-shirts but nil St George fans..it's a funny old world.

Not sure what you’re on about there MJ. I got your point about the Warriors fan base but then you clearly tried to derail the thread again talking about racism and US sports which had no relevance to the topic whatsoever

The Melbourne "supporters" figure is misleading. If you ask people in Melbourne what NRL team support, they'll say The Storm automatically because it's the local team. They are aware if the team, but probably do little to actually support them. Our situation is very different - it's an NRL city with lots of options and being a "supporter" is more likely to mean something. Our crowds have also been only second to the Dogs this year - and Dogs fans thought they were going to win the comp this year.

I watched Aus v NZ in the soccer a few weeks ago and have gotta say the NZ fans were weird. There was this small bay full of old dudes standing the whole time and chanting awkwardly scripted lines as if they were supporting their house at a primary school sports carnival. That or a Monty Python skit where the French and English are trading blows that are intentionally lame.

Maybe watching EU or South American soccer's more interesting? I didn't feel the crowd really got into the game at any point.

All whites? My only thought is that it's a bit weird when their national teams for every other sport wear black. My understanding is that it's not even a racial reference, it's just their colours (though in rugby there's obviously a lot of Maoris playing the sport).

Not sure why their soccer team's white? It feels more 'ofd one out' than anything.
