Yes mate I know about Smith & Toia.
At the start of this season a backline with Smith, Toia & Marky was a worry but as it turned out they all played pretty good football so my point is we won’t be buying rep wingers who are going to be payed their highest ever contract money we will have players who will be on start out money & hopefully they develop into top line players.
If the Roosters went & paid Coates or Warwick double what they’re on now we would lose someone like Collins or Whyte or Wong or Gus.
Trust me we ain’t paying premium money for Coates or Warbrick.
Clubs like St George or the Bears will though.

Melbourne are such a good development club they're always going to lose talent they want to keep. The salary cap comes for every club (Well at least when they stopped cooking the books).
Almost all of those were let go because they had ready made replacements, some of those had baggage that only they knew about, and some were pretty much done.

I was more referring to paying big money for the right player, whether they're a fullback like Ponga, a front rower like Haas or any other elite player.

Tommy Talau is unwanted by the Eagles and remains unsigned.
Still young, an experienced campaigner and covers both wing and centre. Plenty left in the tank.

I know your looking through red, white and blue coloured glasses but our recent recruitment is no better than the dragons. We've paid overs for a dud winger every year since 2020.

Ill throw a name into the mix for 2027 and beyond on the wing.... Joey Manu. would be early 30's, maybe done by then with Union after 3 seasons and looking to come back to Australia to settle and i am sure would be welcomed back to the club

Mark might also sign up with R360 after the Rugby Union World Cup - Supposedly the NRL players being targeted could earn double plus what they are currently being paid to defect to R360.

Well the person who made most of those decisions has been moved on. Hopefully this bloke from Canberra does a better job.

Just because they had ready made replacements doesn't mean they didn't want to keep them.

Jonah Pezet is a ready made halves replacement should they lose Munster, but doesn't mean they don't want to keep him.

Take Brandon Smith as an example, when they lost him they put in a complaint to the NRL and the 10 day cooling off period was changed as a result of the Storm's frustration of losing him. On the surface of it they already had Harry Grant and a ton of utilities but ultimately they still wanted to keep him.

Two things can be true at the same time.
