  • Wingers beyond 2026?

Based on Wikipedia Toops is 34 so unless he's still playing at 36 I suspect we'll have lost him and Marky Mark by 2027.

What's the plan? One article said it reckons Marky Mark's returning after the world cup (doubtful).

Assuming Marky Mark and Sua'ali'i are not returning in 2027 (and Dom Young's not gonna be like 'oh duh I shoulda waited when Robbo told me to as he MIGHT have known Marky Mark's intention as I was pouting & asking for an out'), what's our plan?

Youth or magic signings? If it's magic signings then who?

Crazy to think how good our backline has been in recent years.

He'd be a great acquisition and was the competitions form winger this season.

Surprisingly Coates is only on $450k a year (source Zero Tackle) however isn't off contract until the end of 2027.

Tupou one more year in 2027.

I hope we get Marky back in 2028 even if it means paying him $1m and moving him into the centres before moving him to fullback when Teddy retires.

I doubt Marky will come back.
He will try his hand in overseas rugby union from now on earning big bucks in Japan, France and Italy.
He will have achieved what he wanted to in rugby league. Hopefully that includes a premiership next year.
2027 looks very thin for available quality wings. We might have to look at who is coming through. Tom Rodwell went ok in his couple of games but a massive drop in class. I can't think of anyone who will be ready or has the size and skills of Toups and Marky.

We are all-in 2026 by the looks of it.

Agree, very much a like for like for Toops.

Maybe a bit more high end speed but he does fit the bill of a typical Chooks winger. Might be asking for too much when on the market......

Wow, didnt know he wasn't even on good coin for a winger.

The Storm have him for a steal.

Next contract he will be one of the 3 highest paid wingers imo.....

The lack of depth on the wing from 2027 is actually very concerning.

Bit of a let down that we had to release Tyreece Tait to Redcliffe and we ended up with Junior Tupou who I don't think has shown much promise but other than that we're probably going to need to buy a player or two. Rodwell did an "ok" job but didn't come out and show anything spectacular especially for a first-grade standard.

Some players in the winger position that are off contract at the end of 2026 are:
                  • Reuben Garrick
                  • Sione Katoa
                  • Selwyn Cobbo
                  • Will Warbrick
                  • Moala Grahan-Taufa

The solution may not even be known yet. Could be someone we’ve never heard of. Long way til then. I’m sure the club has a plan. Let’s hope it’s not Junior Tupou lol

Highly doubt Toops will go again beyond next year. Although part of me wants him to so he can hit 200 tries.

I would say it is doubtful. He commented how he gets more freedom in rugby union and that he is restricted to one side of the field in rugby league.

I don't see wingers playing roaming roles in rugby union. And I also don't think he'd see the ball half as much as he does at the Roosters.

It's amazing how money can convince you it's better.

The other winger for the Storm is the one I'd be targeting. He's a real talent.

They always have had good wingers, yeah Warbrick would be a sensational get too. He is big, skillful, athletic espcially in the air and strong

A bit out of mind and out of sight this year due to his concussion and injury issues.

I read he is off contract soon, but I have a feeling the Storm will try to lock him up to a new deal before too long.

Had a stormer of a game in the PF v the Sharks, pardon the pun.......

Warbrick is very solid big 6”3 105kg body which we like as wings
and Garrick is very good and able to play every position in the back 5 and kick goals with great pace
I reckon we will target someone for one spot and bring a rookie up maybe Rex bass on the wing to start

Warbrick is off contract at the end of next season.

                              Great timing!
