  • Still a successful season, and very proud of the club.

So many reasons to be happy about the season. Painful to have lost in sudden death at the morgue that is a night time shark park farking game.

A shame to be in a sudden death game there, but that was what it was. Before that we had momentum where they were speculating on a team winning it from outside the top four. Us. And we were on a serious roll. Put 40 points on Melbourne in 40 minutes, in Melbourne. Flogged the Bulldogs 32-12 in Round 24.

It's a very even comp. But since 2013 when he came here, this Robbo coached side has only missed the top 8 once.

In 13 seasons, we have made the top eight 12 times.

So many clubs and their fans would envy our record.

And much to be excited about for next season

    Forward of the year: Fahu
    Half of the year: Hugo
    Back of the year: Mark
    Player of the year: Ted

    Off to hit golf balls.

They are building to something but need to keep improving on all aspects of their game. I look forward to see how they progress in 2026.

They could well have made the top 4 as they dropped games when in a winning position so tidy up set completions rates and reduce errors should be a focus in pre-season as well as other aspects on their game - defence and attack

Good post BBR, and yes the future is looking bright. The addition of Robson at 9 will be a godsend and hopefully Nat has a good pre-season and is back.

Looks like Justin Holbrook will be announced as Newcastle Knights Head Coach for 2026 with Michael Cheika as the new Assistant Coach at the Roosters. Only know him as one of many ex Wallaby Coaches.

Not sure how that will go as one assumes he will take on the attacking coach role formerly undertaken by Holbrook - He maybe able to convince Mark Nawaqanitawase to stay in the NRL?

It's all about building blocks Batemans and if that fails we can sell seashells by the seashore.

robbo was asked in a recent presser if he thought making the finals this year made it a successful season and his answer was interesting. in his view it's all about winning comps, so, at one level, if you don't win the comp it's not successful. but it's not that simple, because winning comps is a long term project and if you have a season that moves you closer to winning the comp then it would get a kind of provisional pass

One factor for me in 2025 is that the team did not miss Radley when unavailable. Since signing a 4 yr deal in early 2023 he has been on the slide. I won’t miss him if he goes to play in the UK. He is a shadow of his former self in reaction time and speed. In between plays he trudges around with no sense of urgency. An example of a player having to adopt to V’Landys game whereas the younger players have grown up in the 6 again era.

100% agree from the new boys point it was successful but not really for the rest of the team. We still can’t control the ball. Our discipline is as bad as it was 5 years ago. Where’s the improvement?

I would suggest that's because he has been told that one or two more head knocks means career over. Or maybe he has a period of prolonged pshycological or physiological symptoms from concussion.

He is always wearing the head gear these days. And he appears very hesitant for any heavy contact, whereas in the past he relished in it.

He is only 27, so it's not like he is past his prime. He should be entering his prime.

I think Rads played some of his best footy the last couple of months which coincided with how well we went.
But we have so much depth in the backrow that we have great cover these days and not really lose much.
The only forwards that we would lose from a similar input point of view would be Whyte and Gussy imo.

Absolutely! In fact, if Raiders don’t make the Grand Final, Robbo should be Coach of the Year!

Me as well BBR, good post.
At least it wasn't the Bunnies that ended our season, especially as it was portrayed as their grand final.
