I was at the game, and also watched the replay, and I didn’t see Koula burn ( beat , or get around) Toia.

It was a good match up as Koula is no slouch in attack and Toia is pretty good at defence.

I thought Toia stuck to him like glue

If you can point out the minutes of the game that it happened , I will go back and take a look at the footage.

Billy Smith’s physique has developed and he looks much stronger than before. I think because of that his serious injury days might be behind him. In prior years , I was never a big fan.

This season , Billy is tackling hard and runs with purpose. The more I see of him , the more I like him.

    I’m a big fan now.

Bobby has had a great debut season especially in defense. I remember Manu at the same time, and he was a turnstile in defense and always shot out of the line. He has a big future at the Roosters.

Koulas try - in the lead up he got the ball directly in front of Toia then got on the outside of him which forced Teddy into the line who ultimately missed the tackle
Second time 39th minute got on the outside of Toia and if it wasn't for Teddys tackle there would have scored again

Not having a shot at the kid but he couldn't match him for pace, few can so I'm surprised Manly didn't keep attacking there

Toia was a bit flat after origin which is understandable.

His defence so far in his short career has been fantastic. Not what I was expecting.

In saying that, the Manly centre got on his outside a few times on Saturday, putting pressure on Marky N to come in off his wing. He did however look dangerous running the ball even in those conditions.

We need a big game from him this weekend.

Billy Smith is a different type of player. More of a classic old school centre. His defensive reads are excellent, something not that common in the NRL. He also has the ability to put himself in scoring opportunities, something you can't coach.

I think you are a pretty hard marker - I saw things a bit differently.
When Koula scored, Toia was marking up on Tom Turbo who came into the line to make the extra man. It’s tough to say a player is responsible to mark up on 2 players - Turbo & Koula.
In the 39th minute, Toia. was involved in a 3 man tackle that prevented Koula from scoring- IMO hard to call that being burnt by your opposite.
There was another couple of occasions in the first half where Toia rounded Koula up, even though Koula edges him for pace.

The young guy still gets the pass mark from me for his defensive efforts.

He's had hardly any ball. The game Friday was played on a lake. He has had an amazing yr.
