Arrivederci. These low percentage plays are killing us and I don’t know if I can take a few more years of it tbh.

I could be wrong but when I got home and watched a replay of the game,I noticed Angus and Sammy exchanging words after Melbourne scored their try in the corner following Crichton’s drop ball..

I get the feel Angus was having a light go at Sammy for spreading it in their own 20 which led to Angus dropping the ball..

A play that wasn’t needed at that stage of the game!

Savala featured in all of the above performances. If I was to describe his style I'd say he's very methodical. This enables the team to play within it's system as they're replicating what they practice at training. They know what to expect and can prepare for the play without any hesitation. Hugo adds structure to the team! He also offers a great long kicking game and is a big body in the defensive line.

I'm starting to realise that this team needs a 7 that can stick to a set structure which also has scope for a creative heads up style playmaker like Sammy at 6. Sammy still needs to play smart and pull the trigger at the precise moment. He needs to find the right balance!

Bottom line, this team needs Hugo or DCE at halfback next season.
I think this is the most insightful post of the season to date - nice one Bates!

Why thank you JAF and you’re most welcome. I’m currently halves obsessed! I hope I’m not too full on for some.

I heard that DCE is a done deal, but I don't think it's the right choice for us. DCE isn't Cronk. Other than 2011, he has underachieved as a half.... esp one on $1m plus a season. The only saving grace is Hugo's willingness to play behind him. Maybe Hugo off the bench (or more likely as a 13) next season???? I dunno know, but my preference is to keep Hugo as our #7 and Sammy #6. If Sammy goes than so be it. Rodwell to #6. DCE is the past, not the future IMO. And I stand my preference, the club should do what it can to build the team around a Hugo-Sammy combo.

If Sammy and Hugo are our long term succession plan for the halves…where does Toby fit in?

Are you the new inside man? Hope your info is better than that Grubber clown.

                      Is Hugo back next round?

I'll take a motion sickness tablet if he's not available and prepare for another game of back yard footy.

We've been poor since he went down.

He's a born decision maker and completely ice cold in the clutch.

Those kind of players are very, very, very rare.

                        I'd keep him over Walker.
Same here. I’m very impressed with his gameplay and long kicks.

Never claimed to be an insider & how can anybody predict the future with this topic, it obviously comes down to form and chemistry between players.

But what i do know is a Walker & Rodwell in the halves with Savala at Lock could be the future

I was thinking either Foketi or Steep at lock, but always good to have options!

I'm glad someone else can see it Bansai, and I'm not surprised it's you. Everything you say is true. Already it's obvious, he is a very rare player. We've been so much poorer without him. I've watched him so closely since he debuted.

Hugo is a gun. He's been a gun from the minute he played first grade. Exactly as you say Bansai, he is the decision maker, and the leader. More often than not after we create something, next play he is directing and calling for the ball. People need to watch the replay to see everything he does. He's always on the ball, always backing up. His delay plays to his outside men are perfectly timed so as to create doubt, and his passes are like bullets.

All the focus on his great kicking game does the quality of the rest of his game a huge disservice. Did someone say when he made 45 tackles the other week (and missed 3) that was an NRL record for a half? Doesn't get you the flashing light stats, but remember when players would just run over Walker? No-one runs over Hugo. It means a big deal in big games where the half defends.

If this kid and his development takes a backseat to a 37yo Manly discard, for even 5 minutes, I'll give it away.
