Also, don't get fixated on Sammy being with us long term. He will eventually be courted for more moolah and fly the coop and be ably replaced by Toby.

I could be wrong but when I got home and watched a replay of the game,I noticed Angus and Sammy exchanging words after Melbourne scored their try in the corner following Crichton’s drop ball..
I get the feel Angus was having a light go at Sammy for spreading it in their own 20 which led to Angus dropping the ball..
A play that wasn’t needed at that stage of the game!

Savala featured in all of the above performances. If I was to describe his style I'd say he's very methodical. This enables the team to play within it's system as they're replicating what they practice at training. They know what to expect and can prepare for the play without any hesitation. Hugo adds structure to the team! He also offers a great long kicking game and is a big body in the defensive line.
I'm starting to realise that this team needs a 7 that can stick to a set structure which also has scope for a creative heads up style playmaker like Sammy at 6. Sammy still needs to play smart and pull the trigger at the precise moment. He needs to find the right balance!
Bottom line, this team needs Hugo or DCE at halfback next season.

In response, Daly is a done deal and he aint coming to play off the bench in 2026.

Successful clubs like ourselves and Melb are proactive and lay succession plans.Last edited by SupermanSupportsEasts4Eva; 07-27-2025, 12:20 AM.

Calm, composed, long kicks, grinding teams down, completely unflappable. And 19 or something ridiculous.
We've been poor since he went down.
He's a born decision maker and completely ice cold in the clutch.
Those kind of players are very, very, very rare.
I'd keep him over Walker.“Soon will the present day order be rolled up, and a new one spread out in its stead”- (Baha’u’llah)

Hugo is a gun. He's been a gun from the minute he played first grade. Exactly as you say Bansai, he is the decision maker, and the leader. More often than not after we create something, next play he is directing and calling for the ball. People need to watch the replay to see everything he does. He's always on the ball, always backing up. His delay plays to his outside men are perfectly timed so as to create doubt, and his passes are like bullets.
All the focus on his great kicking game does the quality of the rest of his game a huge disservice. Did someone say when he made 45 tackles the other week (and missed 3) that was an NRL record for a half? Doesn't get you the flashing light stats, but remember when players would just run over Walker? No-one runs over Hugo. It means a big deal in big games where the half defends.
If this kid and his development takes a backseat to a 37yo Manly discard, for even 5 minutes, I'll give it away.
