  • Games decided by match officials

I reckon at least half of this weekend's fixtures were ultimately decided by the referees (and bunker).

It's getting very tiresome and is killing off my interest in the game.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

While I believe there’s one or two rotten apples I think that games decided by refs is mostly due to over administration. They should keep it simple so the best team can win. There’s nothing more annoying than being the best team but losing due to the other side being given too many chances. Penalties only for major infringements would make the game more between the sides with the ref having very little influence on the result.

Thank you for putting into words what I was struggling to do. Everything you say echoes my exact thoughts.

You seem to not be the only one.

Rotten apples and a rotten big fish.
          The apples …
          Mutton Head
          Todd the Turd
          Klein the Klown
          The match review committee.
          The bunker.

Over administered ? look not further than the nefarious NRL emperor V’Landy’s.The big fish emperor will soon retire as boss of NSW Racing after the failed development proposal of Rosehill racecourse which included $eriou$ allegations by the racing establishment thrust upon V’Landy’s. His last minute play to save face was predictable and a show of losing power and control.
Whilst he is in charge the NRL will always have a stench of a rotten fish. A fish rots from the head.

I haven't watched much footy this weekend aside from us on Friday night but this has been the case for years now. It isn't anything to do with biasedness either as I used to regularly watch games as a neutral and see teams get dudded with a dodgy call or whatever.

What is even weirder is that you watch the Super League and whilst they're not perfect the standard of refereeing is much higher in what is a lesser league with most likely lesser paid officials with lesser training.

Todd Smith has overtaken Ashley as number 2. Little Gerry will always be Number 1.

We are due for Sutton this week aren't we

Pretty funny , King, but unfortunately true.
When these 3 referee Roosters matches , be afraid if you are a Roosters supporter.

                Be very afraid.

Champ, your hatred for the Administrators of the NRL must be getting in your way of actually enjoying the game, which is what it’s all about.

Sort of like my own hate for the government, for continually having its hand in my pocket for $.

I know I have a chip on my shoulder, but I try not to let it ruin my life.

Life’s too good to pass by, you only get one shot at it, and you should be enjoying another premiership for the Roosters, which will come soon.

Mac, Life hasn’t passed me by. I lead a rather exciting life outside of deceased Sydney and the NRL matrix.
A long time Roosters fan of many decades and attending games and a lifetime SCG and SFS member.
As for your hatred projection I supposedly have, you are incorrect - it’s my no respect I have for the NRL administration.
Case in point Billy Smith unable to play this week due to an illegal play and the culprit gets a slap on the wrist with a fine and likely allowed to play.
Furthermore since the back to back wins it no coincidence that upon V’Landy being appointed emperor of the NRL late 2019 that mistreatment and unjust treatment of rooster players and the club is consistent as the penalty counts and no six agains.

Agree. There was an obvious difference in game management when I saw the matches in Las Vegas. The Super League refs were barely noticed and the NRL guys looked like they thought they were the reason for the match.

Since then I've watched more SL than NRL.

At times refs can be overly officious but that is probably the result of us fans demanding that opponents get no breaks whatsoever. There would be outcry if "looks like a try in real time" became the standard and which is the "best team"? The one that is offside or stretches the ruck rules to its advantage in the absence of 6 agains? Sure refs are fallible and we see that time and again in Captains' challenges but basically their task is to progress the contest and Sportsmanship demands that decisions made to that end are respected. The real issue is that in our self interested, individualistic world in which the team's success is a projection of our own egos, we all hate losing.

The simple fix is the bunker should only get involved in tries and illegal/foul/dangerous play. The refs should not be coached on field through ear pieces and the brunkers must not have the power to call 6 agains.

We want to watch a competition not a managed game, leave that to the WWE. The less perspectives there are the more consisted the reffing will be. Not only that there are many times that 6 agains are called and no one has an f'ing clue why, not the players, refs or commentary. How can a team correct its mistakes if they are not told what they are.

V'landys and Abdo are all about the money not the product.

Bring back the 2x referee system and only have the bunker rule on tries - just like the old video ref

                            Simple...
