  • Watson Not a Hooker

Watson isn't a hooker, why is he always the hooker? We have two very good hookers in the squad, yet Watson plays at least 60 minutes each week at hooker.
Play him at lock or 5/8, surely he is a better option than Chad.

Obviously someone agrees with you—hence the signing of Robson!!

I think when he starts at hooker, his attacking game suffers. I prefer him going to dummy half off the bench. He has no kicking game, so 5/8 is out.

His service is rubbish. He stifles the fluency of the attack through his inability to pass off the deck robbing the receiver of a crucial half-second the make a decision or get over the ad line.

I was critical earlier in the year and he seemed to improve but has likely regressed since his origin departure.

The chooks have always gone well when they get a roll on via the props and everyone follows. This also plays to our best player (Tedesco) strengths.

Not Watson's fault. The coach chooses to pick him as our ' main ' hooker. Scratch your head.

A hooker passes the ball from the ground out in front of their team mate.

What happened to: tackle one prop run hard and straight. Tackle two next prop run hard and straight on to the ball etc ??????

His form over the last few months has been average at best. Offering very little.

No, he’s not. He’s playing there because of injuries. Only other option is young Beniah or ZDC. Neither of whom could play 80mins at hooker. Robson is coming to fix this issue.

Watson should be lock, he has said himself in recent podcasts that his best position is lock and doesn’t see himself as a dummy half. He’s there out of necessity so I’ll reserve judgement on the coach on that one.

The coach has directly recruited a rep level 80 min hooker to fix the issue. The only blame on the coach is that we don’t have an established hooker at the club because he thought Cheese was the guy.

cheese's acl was a problem. watson's place in the squad wasn't hooker. is zdc or benny a better option now? maybe, maybe not. if rads's shoulder is a problem, watson to lock is an option

We all know this. He’s forced to play there cause he’s the best option. Must be frustrating for him too that he’s playing in a position where he struggles to excel.

Also, is there some reason Losalu isn't in the starting side?

Yeah I get he doesn't like it, but surely one of the 300 coaches at the club has shown him how to pass the ball from dummy half? We looked much better when Zach came on.

Will be interesting to see how he's used next year, you would think being an Origin star and all that he'd likely start.

imo that thinking is a trap when it comes to Watson. Adding impact off the bench is his best attribute.

Like Spencer? Love Watson but he is picked for SOO as a 14 because its his best spot and he can cover many spots at a pinch.
