  • Ponga

Just rumours so far but rumour is that Ponga is looking to leave Newcastle as soon as this year. I've seen many posters on the forum before say we would be looking for Ponga in I believe season 2027 but what do we all think for season 2026?

Of course we'd probably have to let go of Tedesco to sign Ponga so it becomes a situation of do we release a man who will go down as a club legend and is one of the best players in the comp to sign Ponga? Interested in the forums thoughts.

Never never, the guy is a myth, highlight reel player that’s always injured.
I think conservatory Teddy can play for at least another 2 seasons

would have been worth a look if we didn't have teddy but teddy's looking good for a few more years yet

I don't think Ponga's a myth but he's only ever been on $1m+ a year contracts and hasn't delivered Newie anything close to a premiership.

One of those guys who you wouldn't turn down if he was super keen to play for you, but I don't get that feeling. Also I'm kinda sick of players stringing us on by signing contracts then saying 'I'd love to play in a yawnion world cup... just saying!!!'

No to Ponga from me - Teddy is leading the Dally M from fullback - he’ll do me for the next few years. Ponga is way too inconsistent and injury prone. Special talent on his day but has to manny off games.

Not fit to kiss the ground Teddy walks on, rather keep James another 2-3 years hopefully develop a player through our academy to take over from King James, this is the way forward.

That’s a big Negative from me.

                      Played
                      15 in 2021
                      14 in 2022
                      20 in 2023
                      16 in 2024
13 in 2025 and that could be it.

And who knows how many more head knocks before he needs an extended time off each time.
                      Another risky bet.
But hey if we are prepared to offer $1M for an old hack on his last legs that nobody else wants then let's give him a superannuation top up too. Welcome Kayln.
