We seem to go through this every few years where we have a go-to person like Angus or Manu who then becomes heavily marked, and then many fans bag them without understanding that if they are being heavily marked it means there is more space for other players around them. This is an example of stats not showing the true value of a player.

He still hits the line hard and is solid in defence.
He hasn't made as many line breaks or scored as many tries in the past (not that I have checked the previous stats) his effort levels are still there. Maybe teams are marking him more this year.
With Sammy back I would expect those line breaks and tries will come more frequently. He nearly scored off one of those Sammy grubbers on the weekend.

      Some hard markers.

I still have him one of the first picked but I don’t think he is running as hard as he was. He’s not attempting to run through the line this year - he’s more doing the Terrell May thing and backing into it hoping for an offload. Gus is at his best when attempting to run straight through the line.

        3) Signs a big new contract
        4) Begins to play poorly

Rinse and repeat. Has happened a few times now with us. Sets the world on fire, gets his new deal, then goes back into his shell.
100 per cents whenever his contract is up he is awesome and then back to normal

Yeah, but they don't have Sandon Smith gummying up the works.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs

Anyone else think that Gus seems a lot more agitated during games this season? Seems like he always getting in to some niggle with the opposition

He's not at 2024 level, sure, but he's still playing well. Strong carries and very dependable.

I think he's playing pretty much at the the same level he's been playing the last couple of years from observations.
He has some really good games, good games & sometimes not so good games.

Might be that things aren’t simply happening for him? I do feel that the lines he has run this year have been more at defenders rather than holes. He is probably being marked more closely too - certainly looks harder for him to offload.

Made a run during the 3rd origin game, and only a miracle tackle by a Queenslander prevented him from scoring a try.
He is also one of the first on the scene when the grubber kick is put through into the in -goal.
I still think he is busting his ass.
Personally, I love it when he takes the angry pills, like he was doing earlier this year.

He seems to have become an 80 minute leader who's capable of mixing it up between defence, support plays and power runs. IMO he's no worse than last year, he's just diversified his game...

Gus is still at the very top of echelon of backrowers, a lot of his outstanding form can an be attributed to Sam Walker, I think we will see more of the old Gus in the coming months he looks a little tired more then anything, damn origin schedule doesn’t help he will be a go to man in the coming weeks.

Apologies if this has been mentioned before (I'm the new girl.,.only been a member since 2009 )

I had no idea this was Angus's barbershop. I walk past it all the time until I saw him on Connor Watson's Instagram. (who has nearly 80,00 followers, He must be the Jennifer Aniston of the NRL..)

It would be good to see him hitting holes more often.
