  • Now up to 5 members of the winning SG Ball team that have signed elsewhere

Phil Gould and the Bulldogs have reportedly signed another member of the Roosters' premiership-winning SG Ball Cup team, with young outside back Baxter Warner leaving the Bondi club for Belmore. The Roosters won the Under-19 competition earlier this year, but their success has seen a number of rival clubs take interest in their crop of young talent.

Cohen Dittmann and Tyson Walker (the younger brother of Roosters star Sam Walker) have been poached by the Cowboys, while Phillip Lavakeiaho has signed with the Sea Eagles. And the Sydney Morning Herald is reporting that Warner has now joined Mikey Nassar in signing with the Bulldogs.

Gould has been working on signing as many talented young players as he can, putting together an impressive pathways system at the Bulldogs. Warner played centre in the Roosters' SG Ball Cup team that won the premiership this year, but can also play fullback and wing.

He was selected in the Under-16s NSW City team in 2022, and recently made his debut in the Jersey Flegg (Under-21) competition. Warner is the nephew of Jack Elsegood, who played 72 first-grade games for Manly and 77 for the Roosters.

But he's now departed his uncle's former club to link up with Nassar and Gould at the Bulldogs. Nassar previously played Harold Matthews Cup (Under-17s) for the Wests Tigers, before switching to the Roosters and starring in the SG Ball Cup grand final.

He played fullback for the Roosters' Under-19 team, but can also play anywhere in the back-line. He's been featuring on the wing in the Bulldogs' system in Ron Massey Cup since making the club switch recently.

The signings of Nassar and Warner continues somewhat of a raid from Gould on his former club. The 67-year-old coached the Roosters from 1995 to 1999, and is now the general manager of football at the Bulldogs. Since taking on the role at the Bulldogs, he's signed a number of former Roosters players in Sitili Tupouniua, Daniel Suluka-Fifita and Drew Hutchison.

Phil Gould steals another one? This is getting absurd now. The club went on a raid against Souths years ago when they signed one of our youngsters (Was it Gus Crichton?) I sure hope retaliatory signings are in order but all the good ones they have are ours anyway.

It looks like Gould's plan for a bulldogs pathways is to just let everyone else do all the work and poach them.

I'm sure we are keeping the ones worth keeping.

Oh that crap! The annoying part about their "bred not bought" catchphrase was they were still buying players at the time too: Ryan and Tonga were from Parra (I think Ben Roberts was too or maybe he was Tigers), O'Meley was from Norths, Patten, Holdsworth and Millard were from Steelers/Dragons, Utai and SBW were from NZ, Mason was from Newcastle, Anasta and Maitua were from Souths. Then the season after that "bred not bought" they went on a massive spending spree signing Kimmorley, Stagg, Hannant, Ennins, Josh Morris, Goodwin, Michael Hodgson, Eastwood

Haha agree use everyone else’s feeding ground
tbh he may have stuffed their season signing Galvin mid season and letting sexton and reed go early
              may derail their season

Galvin had an absolute shocker against the Broncos.

I thought Michael Nasser was very impressive in the SG Ball GF. I heard right afterwards that he’d be leaving. I was told he’s in the Moses stable so had no chance of staying at the Roosters.

Why are we losing these young talented players to other clubs?

Are they offering them more money?

I don't keep an eye on the junior grades like others here do but I have not heard of one of these kids.

Are any of them realistically going to be the next big thing or are we only cracking the shits because it's Gus and the Doggies?

I was looking at the 17 Bulldogs players listed for this round and comparing it to the Roosters:

Less Kiraz the entire Bulldog backline and halves debuted at other clubs. Compare that to the Roosters backline and halves—besides Teddy, the rest all made their debut as Roosters.

In our forward pack and four reserves, Angus and Spencer debuted at another club, while the Bulldogs have six players who debuted at other clubs.

The Dogs position on the ladder shows how astute Gould is player purchases—good luck to him- but dont give me this "bred not bought" bullshit !!

I remember reading an article earlier in the year that 2x young gun Roosters signed with Moses
Nasser was one, it might have been Lachlan Metcalfe the other - i could be wrong
