  • My Best 17 don't include Wong

I mean, he's ok but I think our other rookies have more upside.
I know the stat men love him but I think he's a bit over rated.

At full strength I'd have a backrow of Crichton, Foketi and Rads, with Nat Butcher and Steep on the bench.

      Steep or Foketi right edge.

Watch Steep closely next game. He is a clever footy player. The lad can find a hole!

Don't underestimate how much Wong has developed this year....
The flashy plays haven't been there as much as in the past but he has certainly learnt how to do the hard stuff.
He has earnt the #12 jersey and imo has actually outplayed Crichton this year.

Wong deserves to be in the 17 based on his consistantly good performances.
I place him ahead of the Butchers.

He's improved immensely this season, and when fit must be in the 17

Wong is heading in the same path as Whyte. Just 22yo and one of our best forwards this year. A beast in defence topping our tackle count most weeks lately. We will be singing the same praises as Nafu in the next 12-24 months.
To think Steep and Foketi have passed him is a bit of a stretch but each to their own.
But the four mentioned will probably be in our starting pack in the next couple of years.

I think he should be one of the favourites for rookie of the year.

I think Wong has improved a lot overall as a player. Apart from one or two bad misses in defence early in the season, he's been great both in attack and defence.

Think he simplified his game this season and focused on tightening up his defence. The last couple of weeks, you can see his attack come back and shine. He is a must on one edge of our ruck.

Well said. Wong looks like he's bulked up a bit this year, and now he's using that extra size. He's embracing the impact, and looking to break the tackle or offload after that. Where before he was trying to beat defenders on his feet, and avoid the impact.

To even be talking about leaving him out of the side, I suppose at least we must have some good ones coming through behind him.

Interesting point of view. Personally, I think Wong has matured his game significantly this year and is becoming as important to the team as Whyte; he’s definitely in my starting 13 when everyone’s fit.

My top 17 when all available is -

                        Teddy

                        Whyte

Good side. I'm a fan of both Butchers, and I'd argue that when fit they shade Steep and Foketi for now. But only just. Can't disagree that Steep and Foketi have big upside. Like all of these spots there'll be injuries so the 4 of them will likely be required.

I'd have Benny at 9 or at least on the bench. He is just too sharp. If Sandon isn't in the starting side, then there's no spot for him on the bench, and either Watson or Benny has that bench spot

So depressing to look at a potential halves partnership of Walker and Savala, and to think that Cherry Evans is going to completely **** that up.

                              the backs pick themselves.
14 is a three way shoot out between benny, sandon and zdc. given we've got connor to cover in the halves i'd go with benny.
the forwards and bench have 6 undroppables - whyte, critchton, watson, collins, leniu and rads.
for me it's 4 way battle between wong, foketi, steep and nat for the remaining 3 spots. we'll have a better idea of form if and when the time comes when our top 17 is fit but steep might be the one who misses out. i'm not against picking foketi on an edge and playing wong as a middle.
