Sad to see him go. The equation for him to make the nrl side was always going to be difficult once Marky Mark was signed, but has been a big asset during Origin. He was one of our best players against Newcastle. Would have liked to see him stay til the end of the year. Agree he can have that X factor and can be a strong finisher.

Not sure what happened to Dom this season, it was almost like as soon as he had some pressure for his position he wanted out. With the injury record of Billy and Rob he might have stuck around. Tupou has another year to go, but he is no guarantee to keep his spot for that long.

I wonder who will replace him in round 18 against the Tigers?

Mixed feelings about this as you know when he is on he can be a gamebreaker. Unfortunately when he is off his game, it can be a total trainwreck. To his credit he had a red hot go on Saturday night and turned in a solid performance. Had he played more like he did against the Knights on a regular basis, I doubt we would be letting him go.

I think Dom actually played well against Newcastle which is a testament to his professionalism given the weird situation. Ironically his defence was quite solid and he stayed on his man, making it hard for them to make any space out wide.

Bittersweet for me as I don’t think he was as bad as a lot of people say. He has Xfactor that you can’t coach. I think his issues can be coached out of him, that being yardage carries and his defence. I also think with Toia in Origin squad and Billy Smith injury history we’ll be skinny if anyone is unavailable. Would’ve liked DY to see out the season for depth.

On the plus side, Marky is a much better player overall and I really like the faith shown in academy players Billy and Toia from the coach, so DY is the one to make way and it’s justified.

Have to respect how amicably this has been handled by club and player.

I think I watched all of Dom Youngs NSW cup games bar maybe one and he was good in all, never sooked about his dropping and to his credit had a good game against the Knights.

Wish him good luck, a supreme athlete but just didn't seem to be developing some of his weaknesses at our club so think the club has made a good decision here.

I look forward to the multiple threads down the line every time he scores a bunch of tries questioning why we let him him go.

    Dom Young officially released

    From the Roosters website:

The Sydney Roosters have today confirmed the immediate release of winger Dominic Young from his contract, allowing him to pursue an opportunity with another NRL club.

Roosters Head of Recruitment, Daniel Anderson, said: “Dom is a talented athlete and a great person. We thank Dom for his contributions to the Roosters and wish him all the best for the future.”

Player number 1229, Young joined the Roosters at the start of the 2024 season and featured in 31 NRL games over his time with the Tricolours.

Pity he didn’t work out really. He could be a truly great NRL winger if he could improve just a couple of key areas.

Thanks for the contribution Dom, and best of luck for your future (except when you play us).
