Most likely due to their loyalty during a certain period of time they have some sort of agreement to allow 'private sponsorships' with partners to be exempt from the cap.

They have 12 players off contract this year. ie, they will only retain 1 or 2 of them, to make room for all these signings they're making. It's all apart of dessy's overhaul. It makes sense and even though I hate the bullwogs, they won't be over the cap. (by too much anyway)

While all this is true, it's the fact they are able to get away with all these signings mid season which is annoying me! It was De$$ie's decision to join the Bulldogs when he was contracted to Manly. He can rebuild his team NEXT YEAR. All these new recruits must surely be on back ended contracts. I wish we could just go buy a replacement everytime we got an injury.

If you release 12 players, that doesn't mean that all the money that those players were commanding under the salary cap can be spent on 2 or 3 players. You still have to have a squad of 25 so those 12 players must be replaced in some way shape or form. Some of those players would have been on the minimum contract so in effect releasing them doesn't free up any cap space whatsoever.

I know, and that's one of rugby leagues question marks. Just another thing the arl commission has to fix

Even if they release all 12 of these nuffies, they will still be sitting on a playing roster that is worth twice the salary cap. They get away with it legally because ANZ Stadium (and maybe others) will pay them private sponsorship. Under the current arrangements, the Dogs can sign $50m worth of playing talent and it will all be considered OK.

Haven't they done all this before? 2002? They've been caught before they'll be caught again.
By the way, I can't remember to many players off the top of my head, but a few examples of off contract players include dene halatau and aiden tolman. Who aren't exactly minimum contract nuffies

Sorry bear but you don't get it. The players they will be releasing will be largely a bunch of nuffies who will be replaced by rep players. Every player that is released from their top 25 has to be replaced by another player. This crap that they have so many off contract players is a smokescreen.
Look at the players that eventually leave and the ones they replace them with.

Maybe this thread should be made a sticky just to see what pans out With whom they sign and who leaves next season

                        Tolman is not off contract.

Excellent point. But De$$ie is such a great coach and Greenturd such a great administrator they can do what they want.

hardly any have joined yet, and all the speculation about jennings, coote etc, is speculation! until they actually sign players is when we can assess their situation. all we know is they have a lot of players off contract and money to spend, so to speak

                                bulldogs: 12 players off contract:
Jake Foster, Luke Macdougal and Harlan Alaalatoa are nuffies.
Mitch Brown and Joel Romelo are fringe first graders, and arguable nuffies.
but Bryson Goodwin, Dene Halatau, Kris Keating, David Stagg, Steve Turner and Jonathon Wright are first graders, and certainly no nuffies.
