That’s terrible news for Sammy. So disappointing for him and us supporters keen to see him back playing again.

Bad news for Sam but Tedesco, Savala and Watson (In coming weeks) should be able to get us home against the teams we play in the next few weeks that being Knights, Cowboys, Tigers and Dragons. Get Walker back in time for bigger games against Sharks, Storm and Dogs.
Sandon Smith remains the luckiest man in the NRL.

Hugo and Sandon will do the job
Meninga is said to be very keen to sign both Sandon and Hugo since being announced as the Bears coach - You don't often find a halves combo that have played together from Junior Reps and then play together at NRL level - Cleary and Luai another recent example and look at their success. - 4 Premierships
Be madness to sign DCE but many are saying it's a done deal - Walker is not the right fit for DCE and neither Sandon and or Hugo will be hanging around - Toby Rodwell is a half as well and the Roosters have earmarked Sam as a half as well so one will leave for sure.

To'o has had injuries so has Edwards
Papali'i did his MCL in 2022 I think it was.
Garner has been out injured for them.
Luai had shoulder surgery weeks out from the 2023 final series missing games
There just some I can think of off the top of my head.
Injuries are a part of the game & every team gets injuries.

I understand what you are trying to say but they aren’t even in the same ball park.

Sandon and Hugo are no Luai and Cleary, Hugo has already said if DCE signs on he will be happy to stick around, doesn't matter if we lose Sandon to the Bears in my opinion.

Sandon and Hugo have played a handful of games together in NRL so not sure how you can evaluate their combo to Cleary and Luai - probably no other halves combo will win 4 comps in a row in the modern game if that's your ceiling in rating halves combo's.
Anyway
However, Mal Meninga believes there is another area of their game that is separating the pair from other young halves in the NRL.
“Their work ethic is great, but what I like about them and certainly Hugo is his calmness and his composure, particularly under pressure to get those kicks away,” Meninga said.
“That’s a really good trait to have and obviously his composure is excellent.”
Walters noted the pair have a long history of playing together in the juniors and have a good rapport on and off the field.
“You can see there is a good energy between them as well as a halves combination,” Walters said.
“They obviously like playing with each other. They played a lot of junior football together and now they are getting the opportunity together in first grade.

Nobody named Papali'i played for Penrith between 2020-24
Luai played 22 games in 2023 and 20 games in 2022
To'o and Garner got injured in 2025 which is irrelevant to the 2020-24 time frame I spoke about. So basically all we are down to is a long term injury to Kurt Capewell in 2021 who wasn't important to them anyway and the niggling hamstring complaint of Cleary. They haven't had to deal with long term injuries that every other team has had to deal with until this year.
