Mixes emotions
maybe a C+
positives - the young guys developing
Whyte one of the best props in the game
Wong locking down the edge
steep and foketi improvements
toia is a gun and Marky has had brilliant moments
Teddy still the best fullback in the comp
and we have won a few games we were not expected too down on troops
negatives
consistency
dropping 5 games we could and should have won! Had we won games after 60 min we would be top of the ladder! It’s hard when the other teams don’t beat you, you beat yourself
errors and penalaties are still an Achilles heal
tough one as the comp is there for the taking this year! Despite playing poor in all 3 games we should have beat the top 3 sides in the comp - raiders, dogs and warriors
so also makes it frustrating
To be fair, Cheese is the only big name player who's failed? Teddy, Cronk and SBW have all been brilliant.
Sua'ali'i was a weird signing for a kid who promptly left before proving anything. We then poached one of Yawnion's best and IMO his development's well ahead of Sua'ali'i.
IMO part of the puzzle is choosing somebody who actually wants to be here and will take 'unders' (by NRL standards... we're talking $800k a year instead of demanding $1.2m) for the good of the team.
Unfortunately KPI's have been an issue again - improved in these areas in 2024 but fallen back into the same bad habits - i.e Set Completions , Possession % and Errors including handling errors being the main issues which need to be addressed going forward.
Dropped 3 winnable games - Souths / Dogs / Raiders
5 and 7 could well be 8 and 4 and a different scenario going into the second half of the season as far as wins required goes. - Those games could well be costly
A Tough Stretch after the 3rd Bye - 10 games straight - Will need to win at least 7 of these last 12 games - based on 30 points being the minimum to make the 8 - For and Against could also be a factor
We're at the half way point of our season so what is everyone's take and rating of how things have gone so far?
I had no expectations for this team with all the players we have lost and all the youngsters who have been given a chance so I am pleasantly surprised. I was only interested in seeing the youngsters getting a chance and proving themselves and all of them have passed with flying colours, the future is bright and exciting.
It was great to finally see Robert Toia get a shot after last year's season ending injury, we finally got to see Xavier Va'a crack first grade, Blake Steep has been impressive, Salesi Foketi has been impressive, Taylor Losalu had one of the most iconic performances in a Roosters jersey for some time now.
Naufahu Whyte has been the standout performer for me, his improvement has been rapid and we're at a point now that without him we are going to struggle, Mark Nawaqanitawase and Siua Wong have been good developers too this season.
The Cronulla win was one for the ages that was truly one of the all time great Roosters victories, the Anzac Day mauling was special, the win up in Brisbane against the Broncos was great too.
The only down side for me is that we have lost 3 maybe 4 games that I think we win if Sam Walker were fit, having the talented halfback missing against the Titans, Souths, Bulldogs and maybe Warriors was the difference maker. Getting smashed in round 1 was a sour start to the season particularly since the Broncos aren't that good but the team has rallied from that poor showing.
I'd give the team a C rating so far, we've had some extraordinary wins which outweigh some of the bad losses with a young team that is developing and showing promise for the future. It just sucks that Sam Walker has been unavailable because you could add a few more wins if he was fit.
Good thread Sam,
I have a feeling Lindsay will not be in our colours beyond next season especially if the Vaa’s take off and demand selection based on performances he’s that close to losing a spot in the top17 all together.
Egan Butcher and Marky M just need to clean up there ball handling and we win that’s how close we are to beating the best teams.
If we held the ball in a few games we are close to being in the Top 4. For that alone that is way better than where I thought we would be as a team at this stage of the year.
Our defence is great. We can score tries from all over the field. I now feel confident of winning every game,
Our young guns are so far ahead of what was probably expected and are all up to NRL standard already.
Plus we are getting Sammy back.
We improve every game. Hopefully we have a good run with no injuries in the back end of the season.

Clubs pay for potential which often doesn't work out though
Aussie Travis Bazzana signed a 8.95 million USD sign on fee for the Cleveland Guardians as the number 1 MLB draft pick - not his playing contract - 8.95 mill USD is 13.82 mill AUD at todays value
How many current NRL players would earn 13.82 million AUD in their NRL Careers - very few currently
If Clubs offer such paydays to Sua'ali'i of course he would sign on - 750k

Who is the current highest paid Aussie sports person King?
Sandon 8?
the guy has been a big part to us loosing a handful of games this year
I feel more comfortable with Manu at 6 compared to Sandon! He is clueless about who to pass to and intercepts killed us
the sooner he is out of the halves the better
