All know Victor was being Victor but can anyone on here honestly put up their hands and say they would want to be in Victor's position when in his 40's/50;s / 60's if he has neurodegenerative diseases as a result of repeated concussions. - No hands would go up of course

I think of Boyd Cordner and Jake Friend as well and wonder how they fair later on in life as a result of their repeated concussions.

I don’t think it’s a matter of being woke or not woke. It’s like saying cigarettes causing cancer and the ads behind that are woke. It’s not, it’s an advancement of medical science. Concussions are serious and as we now know more about them, they get less of a stigma attached to them than they used to.


That being said, how is the post condoning or making light of concussions? It’s clearly a lighthearted joke for a tribute for a bloke who has been a warrior of our club. We lead by our actions and how we deal with concussions, which in my opinion we are the best in game.

Well said King, but I think everyone avoids addressing the real issue because of the consequences it has for the game.
You have guys like Mario Fenech, Turvey Mortimer, Wally Lewis and Steve Folkes all affected by CTE, but I can’t recall these players actually being knocked out on the field.
I think it’s the result of ongoing hits to the head, just normal , repeated blows to the head, in innocuous tackles.
Compare that era to the modern game, where players are faster, bigger and stronger, and the impacts and blows are much more severe.
I hate to think about the number of CTE affected footballers that will appear in future years - my tip is that we will see plenty.
When I see our own Spencer take the ball up, he often takes out one of the opposition - I love it, but I really do shudder.

The only way to diagnose CTE is to slice up the brain. There is also no statistical evidence that proves or even suggests early onset dementia is statistically higher amongst NRL players than 0.5% of the general population.

mmm - tell us all how anyone's brain would not be affected by concussions though and especially multiple ones - sure you can say people that never played any contact sport can still suffer from Dementia and Alzheimer's for an example as a result from other factors

He's not wrong in pointing out how dumb the club was to put that on display through official channels, how can the club claim to take concussions and their related consequences seriously when it shows off these kind of photos? Only a few years we saw Radley get knocked out so badly he was convulsing on the field it's absolutely dumb for the club to make light of that.

It's not wokism to for a Neurophysiologist who specialises in concussion and CTE to voice his opinion on the matter, I thought we had free speech? I'll take the guy who deals with brain related trauma on a daily basis over the fools who cry about the 'woke' every day of the week.
