IMO calling shyte 'woke' has become a meaningless label, used by right-wingers to describe anything that's too progressive / modern for their thinking. It comes from black slaves speaking up against racism, so being woke is not a bad thing. It just means speaking up about injustice... which ironically right wingers are all too happy to do when THEY have an issue (e.g. they wanna speak against climate change action, reconciliation, COVID vaccines, transgender rights, abortion...etc).

If 'woke' actually means 'complaining about absolute bullshyte' then right wingers have a permanent lease over being 'woke' as they're an extremely outspoken group of perpetual whingers.

For Rads... I think the media's simply trying to create outrage over nothing. Sure beers and concussions aren't something we want kids to be seeing as the upshot of footy. However, does anybody truely believe that's what he was saying?

Anyone who says "these guys wouldn't last in the 70s" has NFI and it's usually said by the soft hunts who come on here crying their eyes out after watching a footy team lose on the TV. In any case we only have to see the growing number of stars from the 70s and 80s who have early dementia and brain damage realise the consequences of how dumb that era of footy was.

Let's be realistic, it wasn't the cleverest post.

The club can't place itself as one of the best at managing players with concussion, and then post things on social media boasting how many concussions a plyery has had.

It's a serious issue, and definitely not "woke". And to say things like "players today wouldn't have survived playing in the 70s or 80s" is laughable. We are simply now more aware of the potential ramifications of multiple concussions.

I know a former park footy player that is battling with neurological issues at a fairly young age. This person had quite a few concussions including when playing footy as a kid. Whether it's related or not I don't know but its coming out more and more with former players.

I only skimmed over most of the posts in this thread , but let’s be serious - the game is harder, it’s played faster, and the athletes are bigger than ever before.
That means the collisions are more forceful, and concussions are going to happen regularly despite the crackdown on head contact by the NRL.
Jake Turbo is out for a couple of weeks, big NAS from the Storm was out for weeks on end, Warbrick’s been out for most of the year, our own Victor has had his share, and a guy called Eisenhuth quit the game today because he could not recover from his head knock.

The only way to properly protect the players is to stop the sport altogether.
It’s going to be pretty boring on weekends in the future- No NRL.
