DCE confirms career call for 2026

I've also been sitting on the fence about DCE 2026, increasingly erring towards nf way after every Safala game.

He didn't do my confidence any favours last night.

We may have outsmarted ourselves by stitching up this 'coup' ages ago before we gave the kids a proper crack.

Lat night's SOO was more evidence, if you needed it, that it would be a MASSIVE mistake to sign the ageing DCE.

I was initially all for it but with the continual improvements in Hugo’s game I think I would prefer we continue with a Savala/Walker combo with Sandon as cover.

Unfortunately I think it’s a deal been done months ago and will be very surprised if he’s not coming - the words and movements of both Hugo’s manager( suggesting a loan) and Sandons feeling out just about every other club speak volumes - the deal has been done and they are aware of it.

DCE should just retire. Unfortunately he won’t because he is money hungry and wants to use us to seal a media gig.

It’s up to the club to stop this from happening. Hopefully we are capable of making the right decision.

You have just said that you would be moving DCE out of the QLD origin side for 2026, however in your last 400 posts you advocate him coming to the Roosters for 2026 and 2027.
Your main argument was always that DCE was so valuable because he played SOO and for Australia, and you keep quoting statistics to justify your view.
Do you really know what you are talking about?
Boot DCE out of Origin, but have him come to our club because he is an SOO player?
All the time saying he is better partner for Walker, and we should dump Savala and Sandon, because they can’t win us a premiership?

- Yes, I'd move DCE on from Origin with eyes towards a younger combination for 2026. Dearden and Walker would probably be that combination as they could play the next 6-8 years together as QLD's halves combination whilst DCE will play next year only at best. Completely different to the situation here at the Roosters because here he's coming to replace Hugo/Sandon whilst in the QLD Origin side they can slot Dearden in who has played a fair few Origin games, represented Australia and is considered one of the better halves in the comp.

- I never really advocated for DCE for 2027 but 2026 I'm keen on, yes. If he has a great 2026 then I'd take him for 2027 as well.

- My main arguments have not been that DCE is an Origin player so we must sign him, my argument is that he beats both our current halves statistically, beat our primary half in almost everything last season and that he's still a great player for the team to sign. His success in representative football is a small bit of icing on the cake because players get so much experience out of those games and gain so much from them but the main reason I want him here is because he's a good player, that's proven by him being the second best half on the field last night.

- Do I know what I'm talking about? Not more than any other fan tbh. I'm not a rugby league expert, just a fan with an opinion.

- Sandon and Savala will not win us a premiership in 2026, I stand by that.

Of course they won't.
To even suggest Sandon and Hugo will be our halves is a moot argument. They probably won't be our halves again after Sunday barring injury. Sandon won't even be here next year.
Hugo and Walker can win a premiership this year with a bit of luck. Next year after playing 18 months together they will be special. The ceiling is high for Hugo. The ceiling is collapsing with DCE.

He has been a wonderful player for a very long time and a player who has had a very clean skin which today is admirable but his best days, and the game are past him. Our future is already within which is not disrespecting DCE in anyway.
