  • The Origin Draw

Is there another club with a tougher run throughout the origin period? We play all three games without origin selected players. All three games are against teams who have next to no origin players. I think we will struggle to win many of the next five games.

I understand why we are $5 to make the top 8. Without sounding negative, the only positive I believe we will get from season 2025 is making sure the next generation is ready for 2026.

I'd rather it happen this season when we're unlikely to win the comp and have a more favourable draw when we are a realistic chance.

The other positive is that a number of players will be given an opportunity when the outcome isn't critical to our season.

This competition is a joke in many different ways. Our draw is ridiculous and completely unfair

I can’t understand how so many teams get two byes the week before an origin game and others get none, doesn’t really seem fair.

From a quick glance it seems Canterbury, Manly and Easts don’t get a bye in the week before origin.

Pretty scandalous our draw this year.
Playing Penrith and Broncos twice in first 7 weeks.
No byes in the week where players can't play during SOO and no bye the weekend straight after.
And playing a couple of teams who will not be affected by SOO.
In a year where our depth is severely challenged doesn't help.
It will probably cost us a Top 8 chance.

We did get screwed but out of our control. What is in our control is all the mistakes which have already cost us 6 points vs Dogs/Bunnies/Warriors. Even then I understand what Robbo is trying to do and if we click a Tigers-2005 style premiership is still not out of the question. A reasonable compromise would be punching our experienced forwards in the face each time they give away a stupid penalty.

Agree is totally shit. But can only play what's in front with who we've got.
At least Teddy never got picked. Young Chooks to go to another level

I do know the Sharks will be bloody hard to beat in Gosford.

There number 5 is a tool.

The NRL consults Clubs on their preferences for the upcoming seasons draw - i.e preferred match ups including who they play twice and timing of games and what not.

The NRL also of course consults with the broadcasters to determine the draw as well.

How much of the clubs preferences are taking into account and incorporated into the draw each season is anyone's guess.

                  Roosters byes are round 10 , 14 and 17.

I noticed during the Raiders vs Titans games that the Raiders have their first bye in Round 15 - The Roosters and a number of other teams have had 2 byes already by that stage.

The draw is a farce until everyone plays each other twice.

Start every team on 6 points (3 byes).

Agree the draw is a farce. I’ve said it before. It’s ridiculous we get zero byes during Origin when we will be one of the clubs with the biggest representation. There needs to be an investigation!

                        That will never happen

                        17 teams would be 32 games - 3 byes - 4 weeks finals - 39 weeks
                        18 teams would be 34 games - 3 byes - 4 weeks finals - 41 weeks
                        20 teams would be 38 games - 3 byes - 4 weeks finals - 45 weeks

                        Pre-season is roughly 12 weeks
Players have 8 weeks off on average or 10 weeks for players that have played 5 or more seasons of NRL

18 teams - 2 conferences would be 25 games - play teams in your conference twice and the other conference once - 3 byes - 4 weeks finals - 32 weeks

20 teams - play each other once - 19 games - 3 byes - 4 weeks finals - 26 weeks or divisions - 5 divisions of 4 teams in each - play each other once and teams in your division twice - 22 games - 3 byes -4 weeks finals -29 weeks

                        Currently 31 weeks - 24 games - 3 byes and 4 weeks finals

What other professional sport allows their premier competition to continue with the best players unavailable due to representative commitments. It's a farce.

The Major Football Leagues in Europe do - It's Mandatory under FIFA rules for all clubs to release players if not injured for international duties during the designated international windows - i.e friendlies, world cup qualifiers and other major tournaments.
