Sigh... dunno how to feel about this one. Robbo's summary was that he s*cked in his first year and was building a good combo with Watson until he got injured. Now Robson's coming and that's that.

Not gonna hate on him but it's disappointing that we offloaded Verrills to sign this bloke!!! I say this as somebody who was really excited about the signing and has had to change his mind due to a lack of form (and TBH I find it kinda unprofessional how he makes cash on the side doing James Graham's poddies).

I get that Robson's the NSW hooker but is he THAT good?!? I see him as being sorta the guy who plays Origin when Cook, McInnes and a few others are out. Maybe it's a weird hangup but it kinda bothers me that he's no silver bullet solution and may well be inferior to Verrills/Watson who are both from our systems.

I wish we'd kept Verrills as well. for a guy on $850k, Smith has been an abject failure.

Robbo a little annoyed today when asked about Smith, incl about Smith saying on a podcast DCE deal is already done and confirmed. He thinks he's a comedian Smith, but the bloke has no idea. We are getting Robson because he is the closest thing to Jake Friend. No frills. Just a reliable defender with decent service from dummy half.

Verrills was part of a bigger problem where we have/had too many small players which all needed defensive protection. That is also why we were never going to keep both Sandon Smith and Sam Walker. Ignore the noise about DCE pushing Sandon Smith out the door. He was never staying as the long-term partner for Walker.

Is Robson that good? Not really actually but he's just consistently good without ever really being spectacular or amazing. I'd rather take a player who is consistently good over a player who is consistently average and plays amazing once every couple months.

As for Brandon, I was excited and hopeful about him but unfortunately it wasn't to be.

Will have to go down as one of the worst signings in our history when you take everything into context. Not the worst performing player we’ve ever had. Far from it, but in terms of the signing itself, it’s a shocker!

- Signed on big money (rumored to be 800-900 a yr)
- got rid of homegrown GF hero Sammy V to accomodate him playing hooker.
- the signing was marred by the podcast controversy.
- injured in his 2nd game for us
- off field controversy on multiple occasions, including persistent rumours that destabilised our team.
- gets major injury so we don’t even get a full 2 seasons out of him (not his fault but just a cherry on top of the shit sundae).
- leaves to sign for our fiercest rivals.

I don’t hate the bloke and I think injuries really played a part, not just the obvious ACL but the niggles from his first year. Never got off the ground. But as far as all the other issues, that’s on Brandon and the club itself. It was written on the tin when we signed him we were getting a “larrikin”. Moreso a loudmouth media personality.

I think Robbo will be burnt by this and needs to take it as a learning experience. Nobody will turn this bloke into an 80min hooker. My prediction is by the end of this guys career he still won’t be anything more than a 30min impact player with unfulfilled potential despite being coached by 3 of the best ever.

Id wish him well as I genuinely don’t dislike him like some of the blokes on here… but I can’t wish him well now that’s he signed for Souffs. Get farrked and good riddance.

Don’t forget we even had his peers, the leadership group with Luke Keary, coming out publicly to tell him he needed to lift his game. Bennett has obviously achieved so much in the game. None of it has occurred in the last 15 years though and I don’t think Bennett has a recent track record of actually improving rough diamonds like they say he does. Just lazy journalism and narrative writing like usual.

There’s only so many big personalities a coach can deal with let alone a 75yo coach. Cheese won’t get the level of support he had here at souffs and it will have an impact on him

Oh ISM - this from the guy who never rated Grant, or Papenhuyzen, or numerous other VERY good players.

Robson's service is 1st class, his defence is excellent, and his work rate is top notch. E.G. He played all 90 minutes last week and made over 50 tackles. (He averages 45 tackles a game at over 95% efficiency.) He may not be flash, and won't necessarily win us games single-handed, but he will be very good for us.
