I really like Hugo and hope he has a long future at our club. But to say that he’s a better defender than DCE and is anywhere near him as a player at this point of his career is just silly. Come on mate.

Go and watch the Manly - Penrith game the other week. DCE absolutely schooled Cleary and led his team brilliantly.

I'm loving this season with what the young blokes are producing and in my opinion DCE has seen better days and is on the downhill slide which happens quickly when a sportsman ages. I'll stand by my statement and back Hugo as a better defender than DCE at this stage of his career. I've watched DCE all year he still has glimpses but some of his efforts are ordinary, happy to agree to disagree.
The rapid improvement of Toia, Foteki, Steep and Marky Marks class with Whyte dominating in the forwards and we are on the verge of a run at the comp in a couple of years.

We played really well & should have won but again we got run over in the end. Look at most of the games this year we have been in a position to win & we end up loosing because we don’t have a general experienced half directing us around the field. You need a game manager & that is what DCE is & exactly what we need. He has a long kicking game, he has a short kicking game, he is a great defender, he has a lot of experience, he can kick goals, and he can also knows how to close out games. This is everything we so desperately need to win those games we have been in this year but lost. Also what happens if Sam gets hurt again. We are back to square one. He will also provide mentorship for Rodwell over the next couple of years. We need to get this deal done ASAP

Got to say I have to agree - is DCE at 37 that guy - he definitely has been in the past I just hope he’s not going a season or two too long.

I think he might be mentally checked out and the whole “focusing on winning a comp at Manly” is complete lip service. Probably doesn’t want to risk injury and risk the contract he’s likely signed with us. Doesn’t make it right and does indicate his attitude isn’t 100% but I think it’d be human nature to down tools a little bit in his situation. With that in mind, I think he’s got a lot more to give if he is fully committed and puts everything into winning a comp with us,

Agree with your second para mate, indeed some exciting prospects. Very raw but so much potential. Will be so much better in a couple years. Can throw Wong into that list aswell, I feel we’ve been underutilising him.

His form was really good this year. In fact he was in top form just as that news got announced. He tore Canberra to shreds earlier this season. Also put on a clinic when they beat Penriff a few weeks back. Completely outplayed Cleary.

Admittedly he was utter shite last game against Cronulla but I think he’s checked out from the club, most likely due to his disdain for the coach. He looks like he doesn’t want to get injured and jeopardise the contract with us that he’s likely already signed.

Daly on his day is still in the Top 5 halfbacks in the comp no doubt and we already have another half that’s Top 5 when fit as well. Bodes well for the Chooks at least in the short term in my opinion.

Dearden is the better option and will be QLDs halfback.

With Ben Hunt out Dearden’s versatility is probably better to the 14 role and Daly is the incumbent captain so let’s see.
