  • Manchester Roosters

Michael Chammas reporting on 100% footy tonight that Uncle Nick is interested in buying the Salford Red Devils and rebranding them the Manchester Roosters.

Would be an interesting business proposition for the club, potential pathway for players coming over from England but also for some of our 19-20yr olds who maybe aren’t NRL ready to play a full season in the English super league.

    Interesting.

I wonder how their loyal fans would feel about the name change?

Imagine if some pommy git wanted to buy our club and call it the Sydney Devils.

    We would riot!

Nick may be better off with a new franchise imo.

Nick's business clever and two steps ahead of his competitors.
I've no doubt his proposal is in response to the NRL's potential investment in Super League.
Getting in early to set up structure to benefit our club - ala EPL giants Manchester City and A League outfit Melbourne City.

I like it! More pros than cons and as R6 indicated, expanding our pathways favourably.

          Very much for this.

As someone who hopped on the Catalans train a few years ago, I may have to make room if the Roosters throw their hat into the Super League ring. Imagine WCC Sydney Roosters vs Manchester Roosters. Will make for interesting viewing if it ever happens.
          EASTS TO WIN!

I don't like the possibility of re-branding them to the Roosters their club is 150 years old that history should be respect we've already seen the controversy over the Leigh Leopards re-branding.

Our CEO Joe Kelly cut his teeth working for an EPL team(?) prior to the NRL.
I'm sure he has the background and acumen to make this happen.

                    The Salford Red Devils broke?
How come the club is for sale?
Is it a SL club or second division?
Red Roosters is better than Red Devils.

Marwan koukash bought the club around 10 years ago and changed the name from Salford city reds to the Red Devils so changing the name won’t be an issue.
He was an erratic owner who had some controversies along the way. I would imagine the super league and fans would welcome uncle Nick with open arms as he has a strong track record and is a cleanskin.

Salford has had several names over the years - Salford Rugby League / Salford Reds / Salford City Reds before becoming Salford Red Devils in 2013.

Strange they were allowed to use Red Devils when Manchester United has the exclusive rights to use the name, logo, and associated imagery. They have trademarked the name and logo, allowing them to control its use.

By the sounds of it Salford will be lucky to survive even this season and odds on to be relegated based on the new grading system. - No Automatic Promotion or Relegation

Salford have confirmed that players and staff at the crisis-hit Betfred Super League club have not been paid on time for the second month in a row.

Appearing to have run out of patience with their new owners, Salford said in a statement: "As many will already know, our payroll wasn't delivered this morning as scheduled, despite assurances."

Salford have been operating under salary cap sanctions for much of the season due to their financial plight, restricting the number of players they can pick for their matchday squad.

Allied with a mounting injury list, Salford head coach Paul Rowley said this week that the club are currently down to 15 players for Sunday's trip to reigning champions Wigan, including new loan signing George Hill.

There is no automatic promotion or relegation anymore - Salford were 12th (B Grade) in the gradings to stay up in the Super League for the 2025 season - 12 team comp - very doubtful they will stay up in 2026.

                        How does relegation work.

Unlike previous seasons, there will be no automatic promotion and relegation between Super League and the Championship at the end of 2024.

The make-up of Super League will be decided on gradings from IMG, which take into account various factors, including attendance, catchment area, facilities, finances, as well as on-field performance.

Teams across all three professional divisions will be graded either A, B or C, with A-grade teams guaranteed of a place in Super League.

                        Criteria

Each club will be awarded a maximum of 20 points across five categories:
                        • Fandom (5 points): Includes match attendance, TV viewership, social media following, and website visits.
                        • On-field Performance (5 points): Assessed on league position over the past three years with bonus points for winning the Grand Final and Challenge Cup Final.
                        • Finance (4.5 points): Assessed on profitability, financial stability, and a diversification of revenue streams.
                        • Stadium (3 points): Stadium and other facilities would be assessed.
                        • Community (2.5 points): Assessed fanbase vs fanbase potential, as well as assessing community and charity work.

I luv pommy footballers and what they bring to a team. If we had a pathway system to the Old Dart that would be a great move. Plus Man U is my team so the mooted name sits ok as well.
