  • our future outside backs starting to progress into NYC

interesting to see how Nene MacDonald and Dallas Wells (younger brother of Henare) handle their first outing in NYC, they are the first batch of outside backs to progress from this years SG Ball crop into the NYC arena.

if you remember back to last year it was when the likes of Napa/Evans/Tago/Rokolati/Moga etc were promoted into NYC that they went on their amazing record breaking undefeated streak.

certainly looks like RTS has seen the last of NYC now and will spend time between Newtown and the top grade as he continues his development.

Looking forward to watching them debut on Sunday.

I'm baffled as to why Brendan Elliott wasn't elevated to NYC after the SG Ball season. He's fast, can play either wing/centre & kick goals at a reasonably high %.
Another chap bloke who should have been promoted to replace McGrady is Alex Thomas. Taane Milne would go well in the centres,
allowing Curtis Rona to move into the 2nd row.
    Must be salary crap related???

Yeah very surprised Taane Milne hasn't been given a run in the centres. Sounded like Forrester had a decent game last week but surely Rona would get picked in the backrow ahead of Bernstrom on current form. And Brendan Elliot would solve our goal kicking problems but i couldn't pick him ahead of O'Sullivan.

You guys would move Rona to the backrow? I reckon he's a great young 3/4, good finisher, strong defender and seems to be able to draw and pass quite comfortably. Imo the best thing for his development could be a move to 5/8, develop his ball playing skills and he could be a really well rounded centre.

Compared to Moga I always thought Rona was about a year ahead in terms of development and should have got first crack. I'm a big fan of the kid

Personally I'd drop Forrester and give Milne his spot if he was eligible to play. Joey offers a bit in attack but he is a woeful defender. Interesting though if he did go to 6. I don't really see him ever being a Jamie Lyon style centre. While I think he has been forgotten a bit amidst moga's hype, I think the only way he's ever going to see first grade is on the wing or in the backrow. He's quicker than Henry and extremely tall so I don't think him playing on the wing is too ridiculous. Saw him come on after halftime in the Back to Belmore NYC trial and after a dominant set he got early ball stabding at left centre scooting around his opposite fended the winger and outran the cover. Had superstar written all over it. While he's been very good this year I did expect him to dominate a little more this season. But i do envisage him being a very good first grader at another club unfortunately.

I havn't seen nor heard of Milne and in regards to Forrester it's interesting what you say.

For some reason I have taken an interest in Forrester like i did with Hugh Stanley last year so i have seen him play about 5 times this year.
In regards to dropping him & I can see were you are coming from but I think by the size of him that he can develop into a very good 3/4 Justin Hodges style.
I think he needs to get alot more involved but maybe he's a shy country kid & needs a few years to gain confidence to then feel comfortable about who he is. Im only guessing this.

I think they should have persisted with Chayse Blair. I would rather Indiginous & caucasian players than all these Islanders, there should only be 3 in the squad. They may be big but they all go missing.

I'd move Rona to the pack to strengthen it due to JTaylor shifting Rhys Martin to cover 5/8. Sam Bernstrom whilst tall & lean seems to get
dominated in tackles and in defence he lacks aggression IMO. I'd have him coming off the bench.

Taane is only 17 this year as someone mentioned. He is of Kiwi heritage but been here for ages.
Alex Thomas is a good kid and can play as well, I look forward to seeing him play U20s, maybe next year.
The bolter for me is Jack Johnson, he made a huge difference in defense when he was on the field in the SG Ball.

Rona also impressed me last year Persoanlly thoigh I thought Moga was ahead of him But I did think Curtis was defiantely one to keep hold of As he definatley looks lijkely to progress to 1st garde Rugby League As an outside back

Nene Macdonald in a Townsville boy who I thought went to the Titans this year. Made Australian schoolboys last year after one of his Kirwan team mates in Kelvin Lowe pulled out with injury. Apparently very quick, somthing the Cowboys NYC have lacked in the outside backs this year.

Never seen him play but the Cowboys did pick Lowe over him which in hindsight turns out to be th wrong decision as Lowe has had his contract torn up due to disciplinary reasons.
