Its funny ayy Chad is not a first grader anymore but on his day he's too good for reserve grade.

Jersey Flegg Round 16 Silktails VS Roosters
Roosters 28 defeat Silktails 22
Was a real scrappy game and not only just a lot of errors but the ref seemed to be forcing a lot of unnecessary scrums for knock ons when the opposition had already received possession and he could've just played on so it was very stop start. Silktails with 3wins, 11 losses and Roosters with 5 wins, 9 losses heading into this one so Roosters trying to cling onto their top 8 hopes. Roosters just had a little too much in attack, some late tries to the Silktails made it look closer than it was.
Best on Ground
3. Itula Seve - The more and more I see of this kid the more I really like him. He's a very strong carrier of the ball but everyone already knows that, it's all the little effort areas that I really respect about his game, good line speed, sprints back to get onside, jumps in at dummy half when he realises no one else will & puts in a lot of effort in defence whether it's 3rd man in around the legs or initial contact. Ultimately though thought whilst he was off the field we lost that domination through the middle. I don't see how he plays SG Ball next year, he will be an absolute cheat code, more likely to be debuting in the NRL imo.
2. Kade Maguire - Grabbed himself a hattrick, been scoring tries for fun this year. Surprisingly quick for a smaller winger, great finisher and gets involved in yardage. Have been impressed by him this year, he was from the SG Ball class of 2023 along with Va'a, Foketi & Ioelu. Will be interested to see if he gets any minutes in NSW cup this year because he's been one of the better players in Jersey Flegg IMO.
1. Julius Mitchell - Has moved to the second row where he looks more comfortable for mine, real tradesman like player who just never stops putting in but also showed good skill to run an out line off his half to crash over for a try. Thought he had some really nice touches in this game.
Other Thoughts
- Roosters missing a few to the U19's State of origin and still no sign of Darcy Smith (not sure if injured?)
- Fanafou Seve missing as well, will be interesting to see if he's named this week.
- Zac Sarfati had a good game at fullback I though, defused all his kicks and had a really nice linebreak on the back of one kick defusal. Set up the 4th try with a nice cut out to Maguire.
- Really like the look of William Malloy, has nice footwork and showed some nice skill to setup Maguire for first try of the game. Has been one of the standouts this year.
- Thought Kynan Toevai had another good game off the bench too, was a real consistent player in SG Ball this year and seems to have brought that across to JF very comfortably. Tall, mobile prop who carries the ball strongly and moves well in defence.

Interesting to note that Toby Rodwell has been named at 5/8 for this weekends game in the NSW Cup, with Jake Elliott remaining at dummy half after playing there last game as well.
Would potentially suggest that if Sandon is not fit for Tigers game that Rodwell may be the next man in line.
An interesting comment from the Roosters website;
If all five Roosters State of Origin representatives from the first two games of the series hold their spots for the decider, all their replacements in the Roosters 17 for the NRL’s match against the Wests Tigers in Round 18 are expected to come from this NSW Cup side.

Does that mean Egan Butcher won't be back for the Tigers game?

These young forwards like Steep, Foketi and co have surpassed him by a thousand miles in only half a season. Amazing really.Exonerate the West Memphis Three - www.wm3.org

No matter what you think of Egan he's definitely better than anyone else we have to play in Crichton's spot next week.

I find it interesting that Elliot is named at hooker this week, especially with Moriarty on the bench - He is certainly more NRL ready than Rodwell if Sandon is missing.
Maybe it's more about getting Elliot ready to fill in at #14? He can also play centre at a pinch

I'd give him a taste to determine his suitability if Sandon farks off.
Foley and others are showing glimpses in the lower grades. Can't keep them all however, identifying first graders is paramount. Grubby Gus continues to monitor our system and poach.

Egan Butcher is good for situations like this where we are down on troops due to origin and injuries but once players start to get fitter I want to see Steep and Foketi elevated above him in the pecking order.
Will this weeks NSW cup game essentially be a shootout for the vacant wing spot? King has been in the extended bench for a while now but Rodwell is a winger.

It is certainly starting to feel like half the Bulldogs lower grades are former Roosters

back to the dogs they have what - DSF, Sitli, Preston, Curran, Hutch, Turpin even Blake Taaffe spent time at the Roosters
Thats just the NRl squad
Then in the lower grades, Cassius Tia, Michael Nassar, Alan Holten who all have a lot of potential
I'm just happy he wasn't successful when he tried to pinch Suia Wong and Sandon Smith a few years ago.
