Rothfield wrote article after article after article about him... he knew what he was doing... most likely spoke with the Sharkies about it during the year.

End of the day - I was gutted when he left, at the end of the day he copped so much and had expectations put on him that really shouldn't have been there. As a club we made it very difficult for him to stay motivated to work for us, our leadership caved to the constant media attention and really came down hard on him which eventually drove him away and ruined the relationship between himself and our club.

I thought we should have stood by him in the first place, not let the media have their run, Noycey should have grown a big pair of balls and told the media where to shove their stories about Carney and backed him up.

Imagine a press conference where Noyce and Smith stood next to Carney while Noyce said that he stands by Carney all the way, believes in him and despite the media doing their best, the club feels that Carney going out is not a problem.

Yes the DUI - stand by him. But what was after the DUI? The media going crazy every time he went out until a Player imposed Alcohol Ban... Hes a grown man. He can drink. If he has another DUI then you reprimand him financially. But you don't segregate him the way the Roosters did, like he wasn't even a player.

We could of handled that so much better, Carney would have stayed, would have stayed faithful to the Roosters coz we stood by him. If you get caught drink driving, you understand you did the wrong thing and if your club says... "we have to reprimand and in no way agree with the action, but you are still a player and important team member and this does not mean you are any less of a Rooster..." Cmon - its like what a good father does to his children, you RESPECT your father for his discipline and LOVE him because even though you did the wrong thing, he was still on your side.

Anyway - I for one recon he was very very hard done by in 2011 and happy for him that he is at the Sharks. And can guarentee nothing has changed, hes still a young bloke going out and drinking... but the media has found something else that sells.
Stop making excuses for the guy, sure the media played a part, but it all came down to his actions. get over it

So you must think the lack of press he has received this year regarding his of field actions means he's sudenly become a clean skin.

My highlight was about 3 months after the season when all the Manly fans had stopped celebrating and the season had been laid to rest.

Then came 2012!!!! Rd 1 was a highlight, I switched off after that. Oh right it's still going and I was at the last game (as drunk as I could get from drinking watered down VB.)

The lack of press is because the sharks allow him to go for beers in public, which equals no story

stories come when drinking bans are in place and he goes for a beer.

            Smart play sharks.

Don't be naive... the Drinking Bans were because of the constant media abuse and constant "bad" press.

"Todd Carney at it again" & "Rooster out on the Town": It was constant.

The 2 options: Grow a Sack, Fill it with 2 monster balls and let rip at the media and let them know that the press won't shake the foundations of the club... or pussy out, drinking bans, try and hide him away and eventually get rid of him, essentially letting the media know that if you push for something you will get it.
