I'd need to read the history of that offence but it's a nasty one with a max penalty of 5 years.

I don't know why they chose to stack together a heap of lesser offences under the relevant driving offences leg (or what the ticket for losing control of a vehicle actually is) but they did. This is assuming the papers are reporting the charges correctly (which they may not).
Thanks issy. I was trying to compare it to the Sandon Smith situation, which I know is a different state and all, but maybe the victim with the foot injury is the one suing for damages. And as 08 said, the family of the little girl have reached a private settlement.

I did wonder about that. I was thinking Broncos Pty Ltd covering the cost on his behalf.

A little girl suffered a broken hip as a result of a privileged, arrogant NRL player driving while he was on drugs and (presumably) was without a license due to other offences. He's lucky she's not dead.

IMO the NRL should take this kinda shyte more seriously. His salary should go to the family (who have hopefully also served him notice that they'll be suing him for damaged) and he should be rubbed out of the game under a similar arrangement to Lodge.

Just saying... he's lucky we don't have US style civil courts where victims can bankrupt you with punitive damages.

Sandon Smith copped a worse charge for slowly backing out of a driveway....

Nrl needs to either protect all players or non. Instead of this protect the indigenous guys and ride the black red and yellow flag.

Forget the fact he (Mam) has checked in to drug rehabilitation (without doubt on the advice of his lawyers - that goes without saying), that is just a smokescreen. He is unlicensed, was under the influence of drugs (proven on the secondary charge) at the time and caused serious injury to a minor, injuries to the mother and the uber driver.

If this brain-dead fool doesn’t serve jail time, then I seriously question what hope society has. Forget the fact he his indigenous or he plays Rugby League at the highest level - that is irrelevant.

If the indigenous community want to crap on about setting a good example because they are black and have been hard done by colonization then maybe they should have a good look in their own backyard and look at their own hypocrites such as precious boy Ezra, Wendell Sailor, Latrell Mitchell, Jonathan Thurston etc.… the list goes on.

Rant over (until the next time)
He's not going to jail with those charges. For whatever reason, they have given him the lightest charge possible - "failure to control a vehicle". Not even negligent driving. Make of that what you will.
