I don't buy this BS that it was because of an interview in September where May said somedays he doesn't want to be an NRL player.
He has been clear & vocal about his lack of motivation plenty of times in the past - it's the coaches job to motivate the player and unlock the passion, it is literally ALL someone like Wayne Bennett does.

Sounds like Robbo has just given up because he doesn't fit a certain ideology which is concerning because no 2 players are the same.
Wouldn't surprise me if he just wants an entire team made up of Nat Butchers because they just turn up everyday

Yes, I missed it. I still think Eels make more sense for him.

As others have mentioned, our forwards have done f/a without JWH to lead the way. That was my reasoning for targeting someone like RCG. We cannot afford to carry someone who "doesn't feel like it today".

He has a 2yr contract totalling 900k, don't know where you pulled 2m from.

If true, it almost sounds like a bloody dictatorship. Like if you're found publicly admitting that it's the pathway out of poverty that drives you and you don't always love getting up at 6am to go do hard weights / tackling / fitness...etc sessions then you're farkin gaaawn.

IMO others would feel the same way, he's just vocalised it. Also, no fans are bothered by the said interview. I've said it before but I reckon members should write to the club and make it clear they back him for his talent & honesty. Have a word with him if it's not consistent with our media policy but sacking? Fark aaaawf IMO.

Most businesses/corporations are essentially dictatorships. This shouldn't be surprising.

The word has such negative connotations but in reality it's an efficient and more stable model for businesses to run. The biggest rabbles of clubs are where there are too many voices and opinions.

The club has values and expectations and feel May isn't in line with those anymore. They can't sack him as you suggest but they certainly can tell him that he's not in line with the clubs values and he can look elsewhere if he wants.

I find it odd that we've drawn this line in the sand only months after re-signing him.

But at the same time I think this club has been built on legends like Hastings, Beetson, Minichiello, Ricketson, Cordner, Friend, Aubusson etc. Good Roosters people who bled for the club and I would much rather the club aspire for their players to replicate that than not so I'll back this decision as much as I like May as a player.

I’m willing to back the judgement of the club on this one who have the full picture of the impact this kind of attitude may be having on the playing group.

If I were De La Salle Va’a and someone who I consider a role model is going around saying he doesn’t really care about the game and would happily quit any minute without considering the effect it might have on his team then I’d be 1 - very disappointed that someone that cares about the club so little is a preferred choice to bleed for them over me and 2 - potentially strayed into thinking the same way.

Imagine going from Jared Waerea-Hargreaves whose love for this club never waivered for 16 years being the role model for the young forwards coming through, to Terrell May who is there for money only and would be fine with leaving at the drop of a hat if he had a strong enough urge.

I know it’s not a direction I personally want to go.

To me it sounds more like mental health issues. I find it pretty ordinary from the club to completely blindside him, did they ever attempt to reel him in and have a chat?

He was one of our better, more consistent players WITH this ongoing could you imagine when he mends the mind how he will go?

There would be a stack of players playing NSW Cup/QLD Cup and host of other competitions that would love a shot at playing NRL for far less money. In any organisation you can't have people that are not 100% committed to the cause.

May's comments make you think that some time in the future he will walk away from the game again as he already said he has done that twice before

“Both times I just didn’t want to play any more. I get like that throughout the year as well.

“Sometimes I just get ‘I don’t wanna be there and don’t wanna play’.

With the big bucks comes, basically...maximum effort, maximum skill, maximum results, switched on in every game, not just some.
It's pro footy, he was basically just traded to another club...as in America.
He has a contract with the Roosters, so if another club doesn't want him, he stays with us.

I don’t wanna play.

They were the four words that terminated Terrell May’s tenure at the Sydney Roosters.

Despite playing all 27 games this season, the Roosters last week told a shocked May he was free to leave the club immediately, despite signing a $950,000 contract extension in April.

While the Roosters won’t comment publicly, this masthead has been told that May’s carefree attitude towards rugby league - and the club - was the catalyst towards his shock exit.

Sydney Roosters hierarchy demand their players are fully invested and some felt May wasn’t totally committed to the club and the game.

May also wielded some influence over a number of young players at the club – another concern for Roosters officials.

The club has no ill-feelings towards May.

Concern for May’s future at the Roosters started in September when he conducted a media interview during the finals campaign.

He said: “Sometimes I just get ‘I don’t wanna be there and don’t wanna play’.

“I gave it away twice, when I was 18 and then when I was 20. Both times I just didn’t want to play anymore. I get like that throughout the year as well.

The comments set off alarm bells at Bondi.

One of the Roosters’ best players in 2024, May is well-liked at the club and doesn’t drink alcohol.

“He is literally straight as an arrow. He doesn’t drink, he is a really good guy and he hasn’t done anything off the field to warrant this.”

May was subjected to hurtful and incorrect accusations about why he was told to leave the club.

He also said in the interview: “Sometimes I just feel I could quit, like in a day. It sounds a bit weird, but I get those thoughts sometimes where I’m just like ‘Is this really for me? I’m very grateful to be where I am and play with the Roosters, but rugby league isn’t the whole of me.’

“Then you just look at the bigger picture. You need to support your family and I couldn’t do it without footy. I have aspirations to take the club to the grand final and play for NSW.”

May represented Samoa in their two-Test series against England in England.
