  • NRLW RECAP: Roosters Rise to the Top Once Again

The Sydney Roosters have reclaimed their place at the summit of the NRLW, capturing their second premiership in a thrilling display of grit, skill, and determination.

In front of over 40,000 fans at Accor Stadium, the Roosters produced a stunning performance to defeat the competition’s newest contenders, the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, in what will be remembered as one of the most dramatic NRLW Grand Finals in history.

Back Row: Taina Naividi (Reserve), Sam Bremner, Eliza Lopamaua (Reserve), Tavarna Papalii, Mia Wood (Reserve), Shannon Rose (Reserve)

Middle Row: Jessica Sergis, Samantha Economos, Tiana Davison, Otesa Pule, Amber Hall, Jasmin Strange, Kalosipani Hopoate, Brydie Parker

Front Row: Jocelyn Kelleher, Keeley Davis, Jayme Fressard, Isabelle Kelly (Captain), John Strange (Coach), Olivia Kernick, Millie Elliott (née Boyle), Mya Hill-Moana (Reserve), Tarryn Aiken

The 2024 season was a testament to the Roosters' hunger and determination for success. Tested before Round one, following the loss of co-Captain Corban Baxter to a season-ended ACL injury and veteran Winger Brydie Parker with a fractured forearm.

After a narrow Round 1 loss to the reigning Premiers, Newcastle Knights, the Roosters bounced back in fierce form putting on big wins against the Broncos, Tigers and Dragons.

An uncharacteristic loss in Round 5 against the Titans would be their final loss of the 2024 season, charging through the Raiders, Sharks, Cowboys and Eels. With a powerful blend of experienced campaigners and exciting young talent, the Roosters dominated the regular season, finishing second on equal points with Minor Premiers the Brisbane Broncos.

In the Preliminary Final, the Roosters would once again face the reigning premiers, the Knights. This time, they secured a convincing 25-16 win at Allianz Stadium, booking their place in the Grand Final.

Having come agonisingly close to Grand Final success in previous years, the team had one hand on the trophy with an emphatic 24 to nil first half performance against the Sharks. However, the Sharks mounted a fierce comeback in the second half, scoring four unanswered tries to narrow the Roosters’ lead to 26-24 with just under 10 minutes remaining.

In the closing stages, NRLW Dally M Player of the Year, Olivia Kernick, delivered the match-winning moment, crossing the line to seal the Roosters' victory.

Under the leadership of captain Isabelle Kelly and Head Coach John Strange, the Roosters’ season was defined by resilience in defense and electrifying attack. The perfect blend of physicality and finesse saw them reclaim the NRLW crown.

Yes not sure why only a 1 season signing - not sure what happened to Aliyah Nasio - I asked a few people who normally give an update but they haven't been forthcoming - not in the squad photo either so hopefully there was no issue for her absence
