  • Don’t expect Suaalii back anytime soon

According to SMH, the contract ratchets up to $1.95 million in his third year and Su can choose to extend his contract at that rate for an additional two years.

He is a very talented kid, but that money is ridiculous. The only hope we have of seeing him in the red, white and blue before the 2030s is if the ARU collapses. With that kind of financial management, that is not out of the question.

In retrospect, we gained nothing having him here. We got played.

I don’t think he’ll even play out the 3 years. The state rugby Australia is in they simply won’t have the money to pay him

Exactly, Uncle Nick wanted to get one over Souths by signing the big kid trampling little kids in GPS Rugby. He was a solid outside back without any real X factor getting paid top coin.

1.95 million reasons why you would extend for another 2 years as it would take him more than 5 seasons to earn that same amount (3.9 mill ) in the NRL. - Money for old rope as the late Great Tony Greig would often say or fruit for the sideboard as the Great Bill Lawry often said.

He's a very good player, still improving. Would like to see him back one day.

In three years we will have all forgotten him anyway.

If in three years we are hoping he is coming back then the next three years are going to be a very long three years ffs.

But good luck to him. Seems to genuinely love the club.

I thought he was just starting to come good. He hasn't earned what we paid him up till now. That money would only have been worth it if he stayed and kept on improving. Rugby are paying him at least twice what he is worth to them. Good backs aren't much good if forwards can't win set pieces.

I like Suaalii however based on ability he's not worth anywhere near what the ARU will be forking out. The only NRL player that comes to mind that would go close to that amount if they made the transition would be Kalyn Ponga.

Amazing how his agent got this deal - rugby Aus is a complete cluster ****
to be paying up to $2m for a kid who looked well out of depth and overpaid on $700k
he only just started to show any value in the last 2 months with us so our deal was even a fail
don’t worry he will be a mercenary going to the highest bidder

goes to show why union is such a basket case. still, maybe he doesn't take up the extra two years or maybe he comes here after the 5 years. atm we won't be planning on his return but maybe the stars align

Nick has a history of signing players for good money just so souffs can’t have them and like it!

So sign someone else who is better than him.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.
