  • So who would you sign?

Being realistic - what off contract players would you target for next season, and come November 1, who would you target for 2026?

2025 is very very limited in the market - i think we will see a player or 2 arrive - but no idea who

2026 - i can see us landing a bigger, established name. For me Id go for Kotoni Staggs - world class centre, and back up goal kicker. if we got Cobbo instead, id take that for his versatility and probably higher ceiling

    who would you target?

I absolutely couldn’t stand it if we got staggs. I just think he is a lazy player if everything isn’t going his way.

would love Ponga or Burton but I don’t think we would get either.
    would also love Herbie farnworth.
a huge signing would be Pat Carrigan. He is legit the only bronco I would go for.

A couple of Broncos in Blake Mozer and Xavier Willison would be handy.

Tyran Wishart and Ryan Papenhuyzen. Both off contract at the end of the 2025 season.

Wishart can play anywhere. I'd play him at 9. He can also cover 6 and 7 if one of the halves goes down.

Papenhuyzen into fullback when Teddy retires. Class player!

A player that can tackle really well.

Any reason why we cannot make an offer too good to refuse and get a signed player to break contract and join us?

                  A lot of water to go under the bridge first as I think some of our issues can be solved internally but the areas of need as it stands if we’re going to play devils advocate;

Centres - Tommy Talau, Albert Hopoate*, Zac Laybutt

Dummy Half - Blake Mozer, Jayden Brailey, Reece Robson*

2nd Row - Briton Nikora, Ryan Couchman*

Prop Forward - Oregon Kaufusi, Leo Thompson, Fonua Pole*

Asterix next to the player who would be my first choice.

I’d go for Burton and Grant, assuming they were available, of course

a gun centre, broncos having trouble keeping both of Cobbo & Stag so maybe one of them

Big body big kicking 5/8 (Burton) apparently Jake Elliot is this but still raw

A defensive demon of a hooker (Reece Robson)

And a no frills hard working toiler of a Backrower

Defense has been our problem & not our attack, we haven’t been the same with out Friend & Cordner

If I wanted to be realistic as possible, I’d like to sign players that won’t limit the next batch of young kids coming through; Toia, Elliott, Rodwell, S Smith, Steep, Wong, Roberts, Marky Mark (sorta) , Vaa bros and Whyte (lmk if I missed any). Youth for me has always been the backbone of building a successful club. While in the past we have gone and bought big names I.e Cronk, SBW, they’ve been more the final piece in the puzzle.

Signing a back when we have good depth and don’t know how good Toia and Mark will be, or backrowers when we need to see how good Steep and Wong and co can be is going to be detrimental to the club long term. While I do highly rate Staggs, let’s see how our centres compare for next yearand if they don’t hold up I’d prefer Cobbo, though I don’t think he’d leave Brisbane. Someone I really don’t want to see pull on the RWB is RCG.

The two players I would target that wouldn’t impact negatively any young players would be Jayden Brailey if we’re looking for a short term solution at hooker. Good service, good defender, injury prone. My ideal signing would be Wishart to be our next long term hooker. Ik some on here as well as Flanagan at the Dargons view him as a possible half prospect as that’s where he played majority this year, but for me his best position is hooker.

With all that said about youth, should Leo Thompson become available I would absolutely have him any day of the week

Because speaking to a contracted player without the prior clubs permission is a big no no

Walsh, Ezra and Trell as a packaged deal. JT in some sorta coaching/mentoring role with a long-term plan for him to take-over from Robbo :P
