  • The Best Rooster of all time?

Is Teddy just about there? I have never seen a player with his work ethics or involvement in a game ever .
When we are up he goes and goes when we are down he goes more .I kinda freak when I watch him play. My fave is Artie . Got JWH up there too.. Ron Coote -what a player.
IF Teddy can bring the trophy home with half his spine missing ..it will be a mean feat.
If the forwards do what they did last week we win.
Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the universe

You’re an old f**k so you have seen most of them. If you think Teddy I’m with you.

Post-70s it is still Freddy imo. It is just unfortunate he was surrounded by fumbling muppets in the 2004 grand final. They would have otherwise given Freddy two Clive Churchills medals for that game.

Love the question - Of players i have seen from mid-80's onwards, its Freddy for me. for the main reason, not only was he the best player in the world at his time (something a lot of Roosters players including Teddy can claim), but i think he changed the direction of the club, and his influence is still felt today. I think you can make an argument that SBW and Cooper also did this, but with the shorter tenure at the club its lessened. Teddy i think time will tell, but certainly in the conversation

Some of my favourites - Freddy , Artie , Teddy , Mini , Toups , Horrie , Mark Harris , Hugh McGahan , SKD , Aubo , Boyd Cordner

Way too many to single out one.

Artie Beetson is the best Rooster ive ever seen play. Kevin Hastings was my favourite player. JWH is the best forward since Artie.

The old Sydney Sports Grounds Turner stand- what a magnificent stadium and grandstand!!!!

              Beetson imo.

The Big Dog is up there as is Mini.

It’s gonna be a generational thing. I don’t think you can say Teddy because plenty of people (myself included) would arguably not even have him over Minichiello in an all time Easts 17, whereas players like Freddy and Beetson are just undisputed in their positions.

Can’t pick one , but it’s worthwhile picking your best roosters team ever. I’ve watched over 50 years and it’s bloody impossible . Once you pick one player you realise you’re leaving 2-3 others of similar status.
The standouts that cannot be argued are : Beetson, Coote, Fittler , Cordner , JWH, Mini.
I loved Horrie, then later it was McGahan, and Morley for the fear he put into opposing players.
                  Toops is very special .

I would have agreed with your thoughts on Artie, until I saw what Freddy did for this club and the level of skill the bloke had for his whole career. For me, he is the best I’ve seen at our club, followed by Artie. Horrie was and still is my favourite ever player, followed by Freddy.

I agree JWH has been our best forward since Artie, but has probably done more for the club over his time than Artie, or any other forward, has done.

Teddy vs Mini as our best ever fullback is an interesting one and I’m not sure I can split them. Coin toss there for me and both would definitely be in the top 10 Roosters discussion.

Bloody hell we’ve had some gooduns over the years.

                      Dave Brown?

Come from multiple generations of Easts fans and they all have stories passed down about how amazing he was. Watching him outscore teams on his own and scoring 8 tries a game. If they played more games back then he would've broken every record The Bradman of League. Won 3 comps with us. An immortal. Captained Aus at 21 years old when international footy was THE pinnacle of the sport.

                        Good call with Teddy.
For what he has achieved for this club in the 7 years he has been here is nothing but phenomenal and I can't recall anyone who has had such an impact for so long.
The 5 Jack Gibson medals speaks for itself. Probably was second last year and should win it again this year although Gussy might go close. Might even win another Dally M this year which goes to show how much he does with so much quality around him who should steel points from him each week.

Everyone can probably name another 10 players we have had that many good ones. Freddy, Ricko, Mini, Aubo, Cordner's career was cut way too short. JWH, Toups, Friendy in the NRL era.
Horry my favourite growing up and loved watching Boustead, Cleal, Tobin.

                        We've had some beauties.

                              In my time and view:

                              1990 - 2000 = Brad Fittler
                              2000 - 2010 = Anthony Minichiello
                              2010 - 2020 = Boyd Cordner
                              2020 - Current James Tedesco

Best Rooster of All Time = Ron Coote
