Ashley Klein - some serious questions need to be asked

IMO the issue (still within his control) was that he called it too early. As soon as the pass was made he called 'FORWARD!!!!!' and stopped play. This meant that Sua'ali'i didn't 'score' because the super early call meant the Riff could give up in defence (and the call couldn't be challenges... dunno if we had one left but it wouldn't be a try if challenged because he didn't have to make a 'NO TRY' call).

If he'd left it and we'd 'scored' before he called anything then he coulda then confirmed it with the touchies and gone to the bunker to check the forward pass (hell, call it 'no try - forward pass' and get overturned if you must!!!)

Theory - refs are assessed on how many calls are overturned and the more experienced ones know how to jig decisions so that they can't get overturned. Cynical I know but I think there's a gap between making the 'right' calls and making calls that can't be overturned. This includes calling forward early because the try will be scrutinised if you call it late.

Jizz, the bunker cannot rule as to whether a pass is forward or not.......

Friday night in prime time, first game of the 2024 final series, and the talented Roosters dish that crap up. Our big guns were horrific. This is the biggest problem I see.

Atkins completely ignoring the Dogs running early on each play the ball smashing Manly almost as dummy half is passing the ball...just like Klein did for the Panthers. The first time Manly tried a penalty!

Did you see the penalty against Manly for the tackle on Connor Tracy? Complete joke and put dogs in position to score the Crichton try. Dogs have had a nice run with refs this year.

there's no question the ref got the 'forward pass' call wrong. we were hard done by. it wasn't the reason we lost but it didn't help. if you can criticise the team for dishing crap up then it's only fair to point out when a ref dishes crap up. i'd be disappointed if klein refs again this season

We have our hands full with Manly. Their number 11 is outstanding. I remember we used to get Sitilli out wide running over players and scoring tries.

Also, halves, create some some space for Young to use his pace.
