  • Joseph Suaalii's Omission from Game 3 NSW State of Origin Squad

I’d like to see what others have to say about this and provide some input.

Joseph Suaalii, who made his debut in Game 1, was unfortunately sent off in the seventh minute after a brutal hit on Reece Walsh, resulting in a four-game suspension. Despite this setback, Madge expressed his intention to support Suaalii, even bringing him in to assist with preparations for Game 2.

Given these circumstances, it is perplexing that Suaalii was not considered for Game 3. Technically, he was available for selection by the time side was announced on Sunday evening, and while I understand concerns about match fitness and conditioning due to his missed games, it is worth noting that a left-side centre position needed to be filled. Suaalii regularly plays left centre for the Roosters, making him a logical and fitting choice for this role. This selection could have served as an opportunity for redemption after his unfortunate debut.

Furthermore, although this is an irrelevant point, considering Suaalii will not be part of the NRL next year, and Madge (NSW) do not have obligations towards him, players like Best, Turbo, and Matt Burton and the odds on favourite to be picked "if fit" Latrell will undoubtedly have opportunities in the future to line up again for the Blues, but Suaalii's availability for this game seemed like an obvious choice over Best who is under a slight injury cloud and others. I just don't get how he was overlooked for game 3 !

Best was unavailable for the first game and was the incumbent at the time, I have no isse with him coming in to the squad.

Suaalii is long odds to be picked for game 3 after what happened in the first game. I think everyone seems to think this way anyway, at least at the time.

He hasn’t set the world on fire playing Centre anyway. He also hasn’t proven himself in the big stage, whereas Best was one the best (excuse the pun) in game 3 last year. He’s the obvious choice. Happy with him being selected.

Putting a line through him after Origin I would be ridiculous - but that's exactly what happened. The media and forum of public opinion would've gone into overdrive if he was selected again.

Personally, I wouldn't have picked him for the first game, but if Madge thought he was the best bloke for the job, I don't see how 7 minutes in a game plus a tackle gone wrong is enough to change his mind.

In terms of who is the better left centre, Best has lengths on Suallii

Joseph-Aukuso Sua'ali'i would not have played for 6 weeks if selected for SOO3, and this is not a game you would play someone who has been out for that period of time, as you would if it were a club game. His last appearance was for 7 minutes on June 5; SOO 3 is on July 17.

Bradman "George" Best was selected but if in any doubt they have Matt Burton on Standby

Turbo Tom was more of a chance of being selected.

he didn't have a blinder in game 1 and hasn't played since. could have performed if chosen but it would have been more surprising if he had been picked

Apparently Marge has known Bradman Best since his Kindergarten days.
Something odd about this guy, might be his South Sydney connection or the fact he took Freddy's job.

Dont feed him to the wolves. The ferals would go ballistic and lift the team and influence the ref.

                  Smart move by madge.

Also he wouldn’t have played the week before Origin so he has played 7 minutes in 5 or 6 weeks far better to select someone match fit

IMO it's odd but whatevz really. Glad he'll be fit for Easts as Origin already took him away for a total of what... 5 weeks?

Let’s be serious here do you really think he deserved a chance in game 1? He had been shithouse at centre for us for 2 years straight only holding a spot while Billy smith is injured
most overated player I have seen
turbo and Bradman beat along with graham were ruled out for game 1 and Latrell was in poor form but all these guys and more would be in front of him in my eyes
he is a winger only and shouldn’t be anywhere near an origin jersey again

Sitili Tupouniua had done a better job over 2 weeks filling in at centre then Suaali had shown in attack and d

Turbo should be playing left centre imo.

Point's won't come as easy this time.
