  • Taylan May

Chance to reunite the brothers like they want?
Released from the Riff & looking for other opportunities.
Im a yes purely because our outside backs are big average next year with only Young, Toops, Marky Mark as genuine options. Rest are depth in my eyes. The bloke is good, but also a concern around his off field etc, but maybe playing alongside his brother will change that.

Pretty pointless signing a guy who may not ever be able to play for your club. If he gets off his charges it might be a different story.

Personally I love a good redemption story and we know Robbo has a hard on for turning young mens lives around. But it seems that Taylan hasn't shown any sort of remorse for any of his actions. I know it's innocent before proven guilty. But it's a no thanks from me

That would be something in any potential contract. Only signed on the basis that he’s cleared by the NRL & can actually play.

One area where we could use reinforcement is the 3:4 line up…If he’s cleared why not.

Absolute yes. In fact I’m very confident he will end up here, just makes sense. Obviously if what he’s been accused of is true, it’s heinous and he shouldn’t play NRL again. Assuming he is cleared though or has lesser charges , I can definitely see Robbo taking a punt on him. Loves the redemption arc and I think we held talks with him before he re-signed for the Riff.

He’s a good player aswell. Think he did better on the wing than in the centres but still as good a centre as we have from next year. I’d say he probably wouldn’t play until 2026 though.

That's it. If he gets cleared we sign him and strengthen our backline and the brothers are reunited.

I understand that, but he would still be taking up a spot in our squad and would not be available until cleared.

Does he forget his surname ? - May be better to write it on a piece of paper and keep it in his wallet

Pending court case and the NRL's stance on the old "bringing the game into disrepute" viewpoint, Taylan will be with the Chooks and his brother in 2025.

Strategically, Tyrell has been playing solid for us and just signed an extension ... if we want to hold onto him even longer and get something more out of him, then signing his brother (Taylan) just makes it even easier for our club and especially Robbo. We all know he comes from a strong, high-performing system (Penrith) and he has the required skill and talent plus add to that (as stated above) his brother and another familiar face in Spencer as well.

Side note: Sometimes you got to take a page out of Wayne Bennett's book and manage the player with a bit of "TLC and discipline" just like welfare and probation/parole officers do !

                      > It’s understood the club negotiated a confidential settlement after a Federal Court battle following a failed bid by the Panthers to sack him.

My guess is that the NRL would be unlikely to register a contract for him, particularly with his court hearing being in March 2025.

If he's innocent then I think we should sent him a lifeline. However I'm guessing for now he's probably gonna do something like keep training his butt off with a personal trainer / group, join a local footy club and pickup a trade while he waits for his day in court.

Without passing judgment for or against him I'm guessing most here have never been arrested and sat around for ~9 months waiting for a court hearing (while on strict bail conditions). As one who's done so and later been found 'not guilty' (plus also worked in the prison system where a heap of people in remand are awaiting outcomes) it's a really shyte time and you're on edge CONSTANTLY. Also you will see cops EVERYWHERE trying to ping you on a breach of bail (it's almost as if bail is a test where they want you to fail because a breach of bail is much more straightforward for them to prove than 'he said, she said' nonsense from behind closed doors).

ANYHOW - since his brother's one of the best I wish Taylan and his family all the best. Hope he remains productive and can find a positive way forward no matter what. NFI what happened in his case but he's chosen to plead not guilty. If he were to be found not guilty, I think a lot of NRL clubs would be interested in him.

Side note - IMO giving him a payout makes sense (with the NRL's policy of standing down players) rather than keeping him and the club in limbo until the trial.

Seems like a twat and it'd be a hard pass but we are desperate for some backs, so if Robbo thinks he'd be a good fit I'd get on board. This is all of course he is cleared to play. Good player if nothing else.

No hope. When he looks in the mirror to get reminded of his surname, it says YAM.

He has been stood down by the NRL since May after being charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm and two counts of stalking,
"Do you expect me to talk"? "No, Mr. Bond, I expect you to die".
