  • What's Walker Worth?

Reports are that we're keen to lock Sam in with a long(er) term contract now that we're cashed up to the boo-ya.

But is he a million dollar player?

    Personally, not sure...

Don't think he's worth that just yet. He's definitely moving in the right direction.
Born and bred in the eastern suburbs.

      Great question!

I'd go 4 years @ $800k a year. I'd also be talking to Dylan Brown's manager who from what i've heard wants a sea change. Most likely will head over the ditch but he hasn't had Robbo's French Onion Dip yet.

Definitely $1M, as I said a few weeks back the salary cap went up 25% in 2023, so people need to adjust their thinking on a $750-$800K player now closer to $1M

Yes the 22yo kid who’s second in the comp at the moment for try involvements would get 1 million dollars if he went onto the open market. Most halves don’t peak until their mid 20’s and we’re seeing the best playing well into their 30’s. Both he & Katoa would comfortably get 1m on the open market.

Market forces aside. Is that based on output or potential?

That left to right pass from Walker that led to the Radley try was worth $1m in itself..

              He’s a freak!

3yr deal, $2.8M maybe. I’m guessing like everyone else.. gotta be enough to stop him going to market but not silly money

He’s been very good this year, not just statistically but anytime there’s a half break he demands the ball in hand. Become a strong goal kicker too.

Imagine this kid in another few years, if injuries stay away.

I think 800k is where he should be at right now, million a year should be reserved for the marquee players who are playing representative games and internationals which Sam isn't doing right now. I do think within 3 years when Hunt and DCE finish up Sam will probably become the long term Queensland halfback though which is when he would become a million dollar player, could see him maybe being selected for Australia as well as the back up for Cleary.

3 year extension starting at $800k, $900k the year after and then $1 mill in the 3rd year

I sincerely think he is worth it. If we don’t pay what he is worth it opens the door to being poached.

He is the best Sam halfback we’ve had since Sam Obst. He’s a keeper

Yes he is worth it- no doubt. Amongst all his brilliance in attack his all round game is becoming really solid. His goal kicking has hit new heights and his leg tackling defence technique is excellent and effective.

Dont give Kevin Walters his wish of Sam Walker in 2026!! Id be giving him 1 million a year for at least 4 years

                              Yes hopefully 3-4 years
we will be able to pay him slight under compared to the market but will still need to be between $800-$1m to keep him
salary cap climbing and with props, back rowers and centres earning $800k a good half value will only climb
we want Sammy there for life and have plenty of money for upgrades with who is leaving
