  • Kane Evans should make his debut sooner rather than later.

I've been seriously impressed with the way this young lad has come through our ranks. In the few opportunities I have had to see him play, he looks like the complete footballer and has a good motor. Definite winner from POS.

He's also made some good inroads from all reports in Newtown where he's scored trys and really played well. I know that with Kennedy, Tasi, JWH and masoe in the team, it's hard for him to get a crack, but if we were to move JWH to lock we may be able to fit him in.

    thoughts everyone....

He's a young prop, there's no rush. JWH, Tasi, Masoe & Kennedy were all dominating at the same age but have taken a while to really crack it in first grade and even now I still think they've got some way to go. A few games off the bench this year so he gets a feel for the intensity and pace of first grade should be the go, most likely at the expense of Masoe unless he lifts his performances.

If Kennedy is playing busted as suggested, then maybe Evans should have a run for a week or three and let Marty recover. He certainly isn't making the impact he did last year. I'd love to see Kane get a crack.

No need to rush the kid keep him playing a few games for Newtown and NYC and maybe blood him later in the year off the bench when our season is over we are definetely on a winner with this kid.

I watched Kennedy a lot in NYC and he did not stand out at all.. At 18 he was regular dominated.

Again, Cockadoodledoo you are spot on. Kennedy never stood out in the lower grades like Evans has. For that matter neither did Tasi, JWH and definately not Mose. At the same age, Evans is head and shoulders above all of them.

I thought Mose stood out when he wasn't injured which admittedly was not too often.. I can't comment on Tasi and JWH.. I thought FPN looked a cut above most at least for the Roosters back in his day.. I believe Evans is our best prospect since Tamou if not better, but I would like to see him fill out a little.

I think Kennedy bulked up a lot recently though?

He was awesome in the 20's, He wasn't dominant in the same way that Tasi, Tamou & Evans were dominant but he had a huge workrate in both defence and attack and along with Mcguire was the best prop going around imo. He and Friend were always criminally underrated on The Wall just because they didn't have the attacking prowess of others but their workrate was immense and their defensive techniques and work rate for the 20's was always a class above. These are far better indicators of how well they can handle the step up to first grade than how many linebreaks and tries they made imo.

Workrate may have been good but he could not bend the defensive line at all.. High work rate maybe but low impact and unable to provide a foundation the the team to build upon.. This is extremely important and again what our team is lacking now..

Weren't they both superstars in very good Manly NYC teams? If not, why were Manly so pissed off when we slipped under their guard and signed them? I can certainlt recall both players getting a lot of press when they were playing 20's indicating that you might be a tad misled in your opinion.

I saw a lot of all the props being mentioned in the lower grades and I stick to my opinion that Evans is head and shoulders above all of them.

This is actually a very good point.

As good as some forwards are on the stat sheet with a high workrate, it doesn't mean all that much if you cannot bend the defensive line, get dominated in a tackle and can't force a quick play the ball. In a sense, you can become a liability in the team.. and you can see it with some players in other teams, its as though they play for the stats

Having said that, every team needs one of those IMO. But it doesn't make you a good prop.
