Hugo Savala has apparently signed for the Titans next year - big loss if true, this kid will be another Ethan Strange

I have no idea why but Robbo seems allergic to having a big body in the halves...unless it's Hutch

Where did you read that? He also seemed to have a good boot on him unlike our current halves

Jake Elliott seems to have some decent size and appears more of a genuine 5/8 too

It was reported on X, which would be a bad loss as he has been in the system for a few years now, the same as his older brother was. Lachlan Dooner is another tall half or centre with a very big boot, but as the Va'a's uncle said, he suffered a significant injury in a pre-season SG Ball trial game and was ruled out for the year 2024.

Sure he may be a loss but Sandon Smith and Walker are the immediate future. It’s a bit of a domino, we keep Hugo, what then happens to Toby Rodwell who is another and maybe more highly rated half.

While people are going on about Ethan Strange, the reality is he would not have got a start in our team with Keary, Walker and Sandon Smith. Even when we were short last year we played Hutchinson over some rookie.

Walker missed two tackles yesterday that lead directly to tries. But yeah, let’s just blame the ref.

Keary & Walker can't even kick a bomb high enough to give time for the chasers to contest it 90% of the time. Our long kicking game is pathetic and nothing will improve next year If we go with Sandon Smith & Walker.

I really liked the look kid in one of the trials. Hope this is not true. Starting to worry about our development pathways if I am honest. We have no back up halves next year and let another talent get away.

Ethan would have looked good in the number 3 jersey!

Whats rhe obsession with "big-bodied halves"? Swings and roundabouts...some of the BBHs are about as much an attack threat as a lamp post. I like my halves small and sharp....like my women. Just wish young Sam was a touch quicker.

On Hugo, I said before he will play firsts somewhere. The "problem" with our development systems now is we are going to lose decent talent. It's a real fine balancing act keeping the cream of the crop and when to promote and reward them.

Ah, thanks for sharing. Good call of yours.

Makes you wonder that often coaches go for a veteran or out of position player that’s in the squad before blooding a rookie.

With your Strange call we had so many injuries during this period when he was coming through, but would play Hutchinson or even a second rower at centre before a rookie was thrown in.

It's not so much about the big body - it's the fact they can kick a ball further

It's a real interesting one, he's been highly rated for a long time and next year really feels like a year of transition which will present opportunities to some lower grade players.

But at the same time it's probably just as likely that he gets stuck behind Toby Rodwell and Jake Elliott having to fight it out for a reserve grade spot, which for him personally there is a much clearer path to first grade at the Titans.

There is always a bit of FOMO when a good youngster departs but I think it's a real positive that we are so stacked with young talent that we have to lose a few.

Something a club like the Storm have been so good at for so long. You almost forget that players like James Maloney, Cody Walker, Scott Drinkwater and Nathan Friend who would make a pretty healthy spine were all pinched from the Melbourne lower grade system.

Talented players leaving whilst talented players also remain is signs of a healthy and thriving talent identification and development system.

I feel more positive about our pathways systems than I have in a long time.

Jake Clifford could be someone we look at. Don’t know how long he is on contract for but he can kick a good ball as we seen on the weekend. He is stuck behind two good half’s up there???
