  • Wet Weather football.

Loving the roosters attack at the moment and it seems they can pour on the points on a dry track.
Our losses against the storm and panthers were on wet tracks if I recall?
I think the panthers looked very dominant against us that night and handled everything reasonably easily despite a close score at the end. Storm was a grind with all tires off kicks, so nothing really in it.
But, this is an aspect of our game we need to focus on. Don’t want a repeat of 03/04 where the rain I thought played a big part in the losses. (Not the only factor).
Panthers know how to grind a team and play that simple game. I also think in the rain that our little men become easier to spot.
Plus you need a long kicking game which we don’t have.
    Thoughts?

not having a long kicker might be a bigger hindrance in the wet but otherwise it theoretically shouldn't be a big issue. the boys need to tackle anything that moves rain, hail or shine. rain might bring our attacking potency back to the field a bit but so long as we don't try to score off every play we'll still have a comparative advantage (i hope).

but it can be an issue - 2010 gf also might have been different on a dry track

        Nice post-good observation.
For some reason we seem to lose our way during a period of a game- which normally goes "unforced error, penalty, set restart on a late tackle, then other set restart". Its hard enough defending this on a dry track-on a wet track its a real killer.

I think Sam Walkers long kicking game is getting stronger-like his goal kicking has. I remember in first first couple of years his goal kicks wouldn't even make the distance. Its going to come with strength. Sam is taller than Adam Reynolds and would now weigh at least the same-so theres no reason why his long kicking game wont improve....just like his defence has

There's no point harking back to the early 2000s (or even the 2010 GF).

The team is completely different and ground surfaces are much improved. NOTE: The refs are still corrupt and determine outcomes!

I agree that Easts look much better in the dry and it would be good to know how much wet-weather training they do. Bottom line, irrespective of conditions, Easts and their opponent have to deal with whatever the weather gods serve them. I'm sure they're smart enough to shelve dry weather tactics when the conditions don't suit. Unless you're based in PNG or the Solomon Islands, there's little point in doing much training for wet conditions.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

We've always been rubbish in the wet. For as long as I remember. And I'm 72 years young.

Yeah, we dont seem to be able to change our Roosters Way for rainy days.

Wet weather predicted for Sunday. Let's hope that we have learned some ball control and can play some percentage footy.

We need to play as direct as we did against the Raiders, show some patience and only get expansive off the back of dominant carries and quick pay the balls.

Looking back on this post and our wet weather form, it was nice to see us play some good footy in the rain the last fortnight!
Winning away to the eels who were energized and fighting for their season without a couple of key players, then backing up and playing a strong controlled game against the inform dogs was good to see!
