  • Magic Round for some

Looked up magic round draws 2020-2024

“surprised” to see the following abnormalities:
    1. Brisbane and cows have secured away games for 5 years
    2. same with dolphins since inception
    3. poor titans get home games every season

Guarantees some clubs an extra home game every year.
look up for yourselves. Perhaps you can see other abnormalities for other teams

It's a weird one and I still don't quite get why the round is 'magic' (or why teams that play home games at the said stadium would be considered to be playing 'away' games).

Mase described it as an awesome weekend if your plan is to basically hit up the Caxton Hotel for a weekend, get plastered and watch a lot of footy.

I get it but do Brisbane fans REALLY wanna see the Roosters play Cronulla? I dunno.

If we really must do it then IMO they should at least rotate it around the major cities and/or play it somewhere neutral as a bit of an expansion project (similar to Vegas but in a different state).

Blah! Whatever. Somebody's making money outta it (most likely the Caxton Hotel's TAB counter) and we don't have to play at that ghastly 'stadium' in Cronulla (aka dirty hill with a smallish stand for Cronulla members). Hope we give the Sharks their first taste of reality for 2024...

    ...

Side note - as a pepped up 20-something year old running at nationals I had a dream weekend where I shacked up with a hot Cronulla cheerleader (one of my few successful pickups - I was usually the skinny, nerdy guy who didn't drink so ended up being the designated driver [aka whipping boy]).

This time I was out on the Friday enjoying a cranberry juice and a Cronulla player who was off his chops went farking skitz at some girl for 'losing his jacket' (which had his Nokia and stash of pills in it). I put on my shining armour and lied to him, saying 'bro I think I saw a jacket over in the other room... your mate was stealing all your pills'. Shiiiing!!!

We all quickly bolted and got a Maxi Cab back to the hotel where we were staying (some ghetto outside town - national athletes are mostly broke, unlike NRL players). I slept on the couch and she crept out, grabbed me and said she wanted a cuddle. A magic weekend then ensued with me getting my career PB as I was all pepped up with youthful hormones / confidence from the experience. Never heard from her after that (sent a few follow-up messages when I got home and never heard back).

TBH Magic Round's probably just trying to copy me.

It’s the worst weekend on the rugby league calendar imo.

conversely, this is the first year the Roosters get an away game there. So for the last four years we have been dudded a real home game.

We have a pretty good record up there, think we have only lost once, and we must get a decent compensation for taking our home game there.

not sure how it works, but like other parts of the draw, I assume teams put a preference in at the start of the season?

            I tend to agree.

For me it's just another round of rugby league.

What annoys me the most about it is the constant, wall-to-wall hyping by the media.
1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

for a brisbane based fan i love it. Got my tickets for the 3 days.

I don't get to see the boys live that often.

Is the gate money divided equally between all the clubs?

It's only magic if the boys win.

They were pathetic last year against the Cowgirls. Cowgirls didn't even make the semis last year.

                    Make amends Roosters.

I'm all for magic round provided its in a different city each year. Adelaide, Perth, Darwin, Townsville, Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington all come to mind as possible locations.

Other than Brisbane and Qld tourism who benefits from it?

I’m happy for you Swampy and I get that it’s a bonus for you.

But wouldn’t it be fair to play it in Melb one year. Sydney another. Townsville, Canberra and NZ?

Fans in Brisbane already get to see their fav out of town team play at least 3 times a year already. Gold Coast, Brisbane and Redcliffe. Not sure why they need another in tragic round?

NZ are more worthy of hosting such an event imo.

                            Dont disagree at all.

I guess with the nines comp being shared around (when it existed) and sydney keeping the GF, they thought it made sense to keep it here for the next few years.

It will lose its gloss up here and the crowd numbers will drop then they will look to move it.
