  • Catalan Dragons showing an interest in Daniel Tupou

    Source: Zero Tackle

Nearing the end of his contract with the Sydney Roosters, veteran winger Daniel Tupou has been linked with a potential move to another club.

As he continues to get older and the Roosters look to the younger players in their squad, such as Billy Smith, Tupou is without a contract for next season, with his current deal expiring at the end of 2024.

Now, reports from French publication L'Independant have emerged that Super League outfit Catalan Dragons are showing an interest in Daniel Tupou's services for next season.

While nothing has been confirmed regarding Tupou's future at the Roosters, it has been heavily reported that he could retire with teammates Luke Keary and Jared Waerea-Hargreaves at the end of the season.

Last week, reports from The Sydney Morning Herald emerged that the 32-year-old is currently mulling over whether or not he will play next year.

“I cherish every opportunity I get to represent the Sydney Roosters. I love this club and the people in it,” Tupou said last year after deciding to extend his contract for a further season.

“I'm excited about what's ahead and look forward to continuing to work hard and play my role within the team."

The Sydney Roosters have four confirmed departures for next season, while another 11 players remain without a contract beyond this season.

Headlined by Angus Crichton and Joseph Suaalii, the list also includes Zach Dockar-Clay, Michael Jennings, Lewis Murphy, Ethan Roberts, Blake Steep, and Alex Young.

Go I cringe every time Billy Smith gets mentioned,or the thought that he will be a started & a good one at that. We have to realise he’s never going to be reliable, or will get on the park & will end up being moved on like Moga was. Unfortunately the bloke will just never achieve a consistent run & will pull up stumps early in his career. He should never be included in any discussion about being an option as if he plays it’s a bonus & miracle.

I can't think of any reason for Toops not to have 1 more year as a Roosters- unless he isn't enjoying the training side. His form is strong enough to keep on going in 2025 and then move on to Super League

Toops is the greatest Roosters winger ever. Let that sink in.

But he turns 33 next month, and it's the perfect time to cash in via the super league.

              One more year Toops.

I can’t handle losing Jarred and Toops at the same time.

Only 33?! Give him two more years. How old was Bmoz when he joined us?

Probably better for Toops to go rather than go thru the pain of rebuilding.

Best to go out on a high. Besides now that the little master Keary is going...who is gonna give him pin-point kicks for tries.

Hopefully he doesn;t stay too long to ruin his legacy.

If he's healthy and wants to play on it's a no brainer. There are enough high-profile players leaving.

Toops can do as he pleases and make the call himself. As long as he is fit, he has a mortgage on the jersey for mine.

He's been as consistent as ever this year and should be offered contracts until he doesn't want them anymore.

Who said anything about rebuilding? We will have a super pack of forwards. Whether we get fafita or not. Crichton has an offer on the table and might stay.
The smith/walker halves can create and kick as good as anyone.
Toops and Young on the wings and Pauga and smith in the centres until June when Manu returns.

100% we need to keep Toops. He derserves to be the first player to crack 150 tries for the club.

Hope he stays on. I've yet to see a sustained drop in performance from the big fella so until that comes, the jersey is yours Toops!

If Toups goes ..then injuries have caught up to him a paid holiday will do him good.
