ROOSTERS SQUAD v WARRIORS
Round 10 - 2:00pm, Sunday 12th May
Allianz Stadium, Sydney
I'm going to try not to get too excited here. Last weeks win was phenomenal, and with that on top of the Anzac Day performance I want to believe that we are about to go on a run that will catapult us into the top 4 to stay. With the guys coming back from injury and suspension, we are a stronger team than the last fortnight. Playing a Warriors team that have been struggling for the last month at Allianz should be a walkover, BUT, we have yet to prove we can perform week-in and week-out. It's pretty easy to be up for a game against the Bronco's and there ilk, but we have a tendency to not turn up like that against the lesser teams, sometimes to our utter embarrassment. We SHOULD be unbackable favourites for this game. We've won our last 7 games against the Warriors, but a (predicted) very wet track on Sunday arvo will be a big evener.
Jazz fittingly brings up his 300th game for the Roosters at home, becoming only the 4th player in our 117 year history to earn the highly-coveted Golden Rooster. I have serious man-love for this bloke, he is an absolute bloody champion, and in my opinion, irreplaceable. He has been the heart and soul of our team for so long, he will leave a very large hole when he hangs up his boots for us at years end. Let's celebrate him while we have him ... this will be his day. I'm backing him for a try ... I reckon he'll grab one in his second stint.
The Warriors have a few threats - AFB is hard to stop, CNK has his moments, Johnson can work some magic, and of course RTS is always dangerous. On their day they can play some good footy. We can't take them lightly.
Lots to like with the team list this week. Plenty of top-notch players back, with Jazz, Rads, Toops, & Leniu all returning to the 17, meaning Tupouniua, Wong, Egan, & Pauga miss out. Whyte named on the bench, so he might get a run on an edge. It's tough on these guys who have performed very well, but spots are limited and it's a good problem to have. This side is very close to full strength, with probably only Billy Smith still being unavailable from our best possible 17. But until he's back, the count goes on .... now 109.
I usually love Sunday arvo games, but this won't be a sunny afternoon where we can throw the pill around and run riot. We have to go through the middle, kick well, build pressure and play conservative footy. If we earn the right to eventually get a little flamboyant, so be it, but we MUST lay the platform first.
A happy Mothers (game) Day for all the mum's out there. What better gift than a big Roosters victory? Unfortunately for me, my daughters have booked a late Mothers Day lunch, at 2:00pm ... DAMN IT!! I'll be getting updates via the Roosters app & watching a replay on Sunday night. Good luck to the boys.
