    SBW a wanted man

THROWING their hat into the ring for Sonny Bill Williams proves the Eels' management is at least thinking clearly - he would turn the struggling club around. This column reported on a meeting that SBW and Stephen Kearney had in November. Kearney and SBW have a very strong relationship - the Eels coach maintained contact and interest in SBW when plenty of others wanted to hammer him. When SBW makes his decision it won't be based on dollars, despite plenty of his critics saying he just chases the dollar. The opposite is the truth - he is about challenging himself as a sportsman and doing what others say he can't do. Of course, reward comes into that. The real reason he left the Bulldogs may never come out - but it was not motivated by finance. SBW has always held Roosters boss Nick Politis in the highest regard and I think his loyalty and friendship may outweigh the relationship he has with Kearney. SBW won't go to the top bidder, but he will want to play rugby in the lead-up to his NRL return and he will want to box, and the Roosters are said to be comfortable with that. It also means he won't eat up as much of their salary cap

Are we going to get him a bit cheaper than expected?

The Eels can have him. I presume to replace Hindy.

We were never gonna pay the money that's been mentioned in the media. Parramatta were throwing much more money than everyone in the Nrl but could not get the 3rd party agreements to boost his income. The chooks have this area more than covered.

How many duds are the eels going to buy in order to realize that they need to build their own team. The great eels teams from past have never gone out and bought players especially erratic ego's like Sandow for example.

On SBW, if he wants to take a deal in japan and then come to our club unprepared and stay for one year, then forget about him. The last thing we want is a hero like him getting in the ears of the young kids, telling them to go out and look for better offers.

As per my earlier post on another thread.

SBW will be here in January. The date means we won't have to pay an arm and a leg for him. Read into it as much as you like.

That's the feeling I am getting. Any idea when the announcement is coming?
It has been suggested by some in the media that they can't yell it from the roof tops before 30/06....others say anytime from mid May.

Off course he isn't going to go for the $$$ in my opinion because he is going to get the $1.2 million from 12 games of Japanese rugby than come into a team in Feb 2013 unprepared. A team who has been training their asses off in preseason bonding and gaining fitness only for mr superstar to come in and force one out of the starting team ....

This could possibly cause huge division. He may be popular amongst players but if 1 player is forced out(which has to happen) than the popularity of this player amongst his team mates could prove fatal for our on field performance.

IMO: We have finally starting building our team, lets not go back to the dark days please

It's not his late arrival I'm worried about. Most of the time he is in japan he will be playing full games there, so his match fitness will be ok, even if it's only wugby.

It's more his transition after not playing league for more than 5 years. It will take him more than 1 year to adapt like with Gasnier and by the time he's ready to go, he's off contract.

I think he still has ALL Black selection ambitions come June selection time, and a code switch announcement before this would certainly kill off his chances of getting another jersey.I think the Jap rugby idea is just a sideball being thrown to help with this selection as well.

Hey guys, I was just curious as to how our club recruitment works.

I know that it differs with marque signings and what not, but eventually who is the person who makes the call on whther we should sign a player or not. Is it POS, Smith, Ugly melon Noyce, uncle Costa, or a group decision ? Interesting to know who wants SBW here and who doesn't. Don't think smith would be a fan of bringing an ego back to the joint.
