  • Stopping Reece Walsh

Thats two games this year we have shown you can stop the force that is Reece lightning. Well, we can anyway.

No other team has been able to limit his impact like us.

He's the best talent I've seen hit the game in a long while though. Credit to Robbo on this one, but how are we doing it?

Inside pressure, don't rush out of the line and be comfortable to let him drift across field until he tries a stupid kick or throws a reckless pass.

Obviously none of that can be achieved if we aren't controlling ruck speed so winning the ruck on those set up plays where they try to hit a post and split the defensive line 6-4 are very important so we can man up 1 on 1.

He's an incredible ball runner, acceleration like I've never seen before but he's not a good playmaker.. not yet anyway. He's too impulsive and trigger happy.

He feels he needs to score off every play. When he gets this out of his game he will be a bloody good fullback

Not sure about the nail polish though…..

        Penrith

I think it was 2021 when Turbo was killing it - Some Teams kicked high to him on the last tackle and every time he caught the ball he was immediately tackled thus nullifying his kick return metres. Manly would then use 2 or 3 tackles before their forwards got back on side and would struggle to get out of their own 30 in their sets.

That would be a tactic to use to nullify his impact as well in kick returns.

Ah so that’s how we’re doing it. It’s Penrith. And something to do with kicking it to turbo

On the their third try Butcher did not come across on the inside and Walsh found the inside pass . He is still young and developing but I also noticed he constantly complains to the ref or almost stops and asks for a penalty

At this point in his career, he has too many shockers to be considered at the same level as Teddy, Turbo, Edwards and Ponga.

The broncos were talking it up during the week about how confident they are about scoring from anywhere. Last night shows they can’t against the good sides. They’re obviously very talented but haven’t beaten any of the better sides yet this year.

What I love most are the toys flying out of the pram when things don't go his way. He's a bad sport and often blames his team mates for his poor decision making.

Haha...the King lost me with that one too.

Kick to the corners and box him in.
Slow down the ruck and their quick play the balls.
Get the ref to make them go back to play the ball where they were tackled (they are the best to creep forward). This slows the play and we can reset.
                        Rotate the middle forwards.
Nat and Angus held the edge and allowed our centres / wingers to mark their men.

                        Great stuff Roosters!

He's a talent, that's for sure. But he does some idiotic things that put his team under pressure.

He doesn't know when to play the percentages and when to try something dazzling. He tries to dazzle every play and the Roosters benefitted from this last night - as did the Panthers in the GF.

He needs a coach who can develop this ability as Robbo has done with Sam Walker.
