  • Best Roster?

Always hear pundits banging on about how we have the best roster alongside the usual jokes about buying players/over the cap.

But do we have the best roster?

I would have thought there are a couple of teams with a better roster than ours (more rep players etc). Penrith and Broncos come to mind.

    Well let’s see …

Panthers lost Crichton and Leniu … and replaced them with no one … Broncos lost Flegler and Farnworth… and replaced them with no one … all quality footballers

We lost no one but instead brought in two star recruits … and you figure we are still behind them? when we have had the best squad these last two years? (call it 2nd or 3rd if you really wish but you’re kidding yourself otherwise)

You really need to distinguish between talent and performance … because the two don’t invariably meet … just look at Souths these days

Roosters clearly have the number 1 squad now

with a salary cap it's hard for one team to clearly have the best roster. we've got a very good roster but too subjective to say who has the best roster. you'll often find a few different teams will be labelled with the tag in any given season

I think there is a hint of pundits not realising that some of our players over the last few years, are certainly not at the same level they used to be anymore.
Most notably for instance, Keary and JWH. Both still fantastic players, but Jared isn't the best prop in the comp anymore, and hasn't been for a few years and Keary, who I genuinely believed was basically the best player in the world early 2021, has certainly trended down since his ACL. This is true for a few other players, as well.

I think at absolute full strength, the Broncos probably have the strongest roster. But for me, it's pretty touch and go between them, the Panthers and ourselves. We've underachieved in many respects over the past few years, but no side has even come close to dealing with the amount of injuries that we have over a long period of time.

Also, no use having the best roster when most of them are sitting on the sideline and not on the field playing!

This ( bold) , the right coah is so important in this respect , taking talented players and getting a consistent performance from them
