  • Before you back the Roosters to beat Manly........

You may want to read this first.

    Manly v Sydney Roosters – Sunday 2:00pm

    · The Roosters have a historically terrible record at Brookvale, which has been on the decline in
recent seasons. The Roosters 11 wins from 46 matches (23.9%) at Brookvale is their worst winning
record at any permanent venue and in their past four matches there the Roosters have been
outscored 172 points to 26, the most points ever conceded by the Roosters in a four game stretch
    at a single venue.

    · Since 2005 Manly has won 10 of its 12 matches against the Roosters (83.3%), its best winning
percentage against any team in that period. Six of those 10 wins have been by 20 points or more
and both losses have come at the SFS.

    · Overall nine of the past 10 matches between these sides have been decided by 16 points or more.

    · Since 1998 every year the Roosters have beaten Manly they have gone on to make the finals
(1998-99, 2003-04, 2008,2010) and every year they have failed to beat them they have missed the
    finals (2005-2007, 2009,2011)

    · Manly has lost just one of its past 13 matches at Brookvale and has held its opponents to 12 points
or less in eight of those wins. On Sunday afternoons the Sea Eagles have won 17 of their past 20
matches at Brookvale, and 10 of their past 11 matches at any venue.

    · The Roosters have won just four of their past 18 matches away from Allianz Stadium, scoring 12
points or less in 10 of those losses.

    · Five of Manly’s six wins and three of the Roosters five wins this season have been by six points or
    less.

    · The Roosters have been held scoreless for at least an hour in three of their past four matches at
Brookvale, and have been outscored 118-18 in the second half of these games.

    · Both of these teams have been slow starters this season. The Roosters have scored just 24 points
in the opening 20 minutes of their matches this season (the least) and gone on to score just 70 first
half points in total (equal 3rd least). Manly has scored just 66 first half points all season, the least of
any team. Manly has been able to increase the scoring rate in the second half however, with 120
points, second only to Melbourne (172 points). They have been especially dominant in the opening
20 minutes of the second half where they have outscored their opponents 68-18 in this period.

    · The Roosters have scored 13 of their 29 tries from kicks this season, the second most behind
Melbourne (15) and the highest percentage of any team (44.8%). Manly has conceded 12 of its 30
tries from kick this season, the second highest percentage behind Cronulla (12 of 29).

    · Manly is missing Brett Stewart, Glenn Stewart, Tony Williams and Jamie Buhrer on NSW Origin
Duties, while the Roosters are missing Mitchell Pearce. Since the beginning of 2010 Manly has won
just one of five matches with both of the Stewart brothers missing from the side.

    · Jamie Lyon requires four points to bring up 800 career points, so far 652 of those points have
come for Manly (sixth most for the club).

    · David Williams has scored 23 tries in his past 22 matches at Brookvale, and five tries in his five
matches against the Roosters, including three tries in two matches against them at Brookvale.

    · Steve Matai has scored four tries in his past four matches against the Roosters and five tries in his
five matches against them at Brookvale.

The law of averages would suggest that something will change eventually. It could be this week.

Well I'm putting on a few first try scorer bets - Williams, Lyon, Guerra (had him last week at 25/1 - 2nd try dont pay boooo), Moga, Aubusson. Show me the money.

Why are you so confident we will get a touch-up?

Supporting the chooks after all these years is why. Unless something drastic happens like a lightning bolt hit someone on their team, then we have lost.

I thought it may have been a good time to get the Eagles at Brookie but looking at their team, it looks quite capable. I'm just hoping that we ditch the win, loss, win, loss cycle (becoming a frustrating trait) with two wins instead of two losses. I think if Hargraeves and Tasi fire up against their old team, we should be well placed to win though even allowing for our horrible record as Planetboy points out.
