Rosters defeated by the Bulldogs 30-16

Score line a little deceptive, Score line was 24 - 16 with 10 to go and the Roosters bombed two certain tries just a couple of metres out from the line. Last try to the dogs to make it 30 points was a bit of a games over, try in the last minute.

Bulldogs were very dominant for the first 20 minutes but much more even game with the Roosters dominating for periods of play from there on.

    Best on ground for mine

3 - Lachlan Metcalfe - Really good fundamental skills for such a young halfback, plays very direct, show good selective passing when picking options, plays well into the line and before it, supports on breaks well and has a very sweet left boot. Good long and short kicking game with a real nice sideline conversion to top it off. Scored two tries himself, supporting linebreaks one of which he set up.

2 - Phillip Lavakeiaho - Very big prop, contributed well to yardage and was a threat in good ball when we were looking to score. He really should be a dominant force at this level and he showed really good glimpses of it today. Got very close to scoring a try not long after half time, just knocked it on as he was breaking free of the last defender.

1 - Thomas McKenna - Left edge second rower, makes really good decisions in defence, seems to be a competent passer and runs good lines for his halves. Missed his assignment on a couple of occasions when Metcalfe was playing deep into the line but I think that partnership on the left edge will blossom over the next few weeks.

Overall decent performance, was very concerned after the first 20 minutes as we were blown off the park but through the next 40 minutes I would say we controlled the game pretty well against a very strong Bulldogs team.

Roosters defeat the Bulldogs by 36-26

Game of two halves, Roosters very ordinary in the first half. Pushed way too many passes, didn’t have any patience and were lucky to score a try right on half time to go in only 12-6 down. Second half much improved, controlled the ball well and power of the forward pack was too much for the Dogs. Dogs scored right on the siren for a consolation try that made the score line look closer than what it actually was.

      Best on ground for mine

3 - Aholoka Toia - stocky prop off the bench really helped change the momentum with some really powerful carries, won 2 penalties coming out of this own end and scored 2 crucial tries just too big too strong close to the line.

2 - Blake Steep - Great tackle technique for a lock forward, pulled off some great hits in the middle and worked tirelessly. No stats yet but would say he took the most carries and they were all good carries.

1 - Toby Rodwell - Started the game off with a massive 40/20 and continued to kick well all game both short and long. Showed great footwork all game, two particular highlights were his try just before half time where he stepped twice coming back into the posts and showed good strength to drag a couple of defenders over the line with him and then in the second half off the kick off where he stepped to go down the short side resulting in a 60m line break for the side.

Over all they looked a little over excited in the first half and were trying to score on every play in good ball but as they settled down in the second half the difference in quality was considerable.
