Pretty solid analysis. I wonder if we might see Joe in the back row in the trials?

Hope not. Think his main attraction is his skill under the high ball, best in the business potentially. In attack want him playing as close as possible to the touchline.

Made me think of the team Rd 1 in the last 3 years....and how differently it looked come semi final time.

Really what we are talking about is a first world Rd 1 problem!! Depth is how it should be looked at- because as we have found out we cant rely on luck when it comes to injuries.

I wouldn't give up on Suaalii playing in the centres just because he was ordinary in his stint there last year. A 19 year old playing first grade in the centres is a massive ask. He has all the attributes to be good anywhere in the backline.

He's been training in the off-season at fullback, centre and wing....I think a replacement in any of those if there is an injury...

Completely agree, the entire team was flat during that period.
I am a huge fan of Billy Smith as well, but Suaalii is on huge money, he will start at centre.

                Billy smith needs to start
Rob toia will put pressure on towards the end of the year
suaali can be first choice back up
his defence reads were horrible and centre and had no passing or running skills as a centre

The article sums out our backline “issue” (good problem to have) perfectly. Poor ol Billy must be spewin! And I think he is a much better centre than Sualli’i.
                  Red, White and Bluesters!!!

                    Bench spot?

Can cover all these 3 positions and the backrow.

Robbo loves to pick an odd dude on the bench.

We have enough of those too. I do believe he’d do an excellent job though.

So a player salary dictates if he starts or not? I thought you’d pick the best player for that position regardless of salary, usually skills and what’s best for the team is the criteria.

I noticed Docker Clay playing halfback for Norths late last year. He went OK. He's another backup for the halves
