Joey might not need to be playing league for much longer - he has other aspirations now such as singing

Joey Manu, Siua & Suuali did a track together. It’s called party all night -

Hopefully Toi has gotten on with the job too to fill the void but then again...

If we cant match the sort of money he could earn elsewhere, then let him pocket a bonus on a short term deal outside the NRL, which allows us to keep him and at the same time reward him for previously taking unders to stay with us.
I think personally if he wants to go down that route then he should go and stay in Union or take the Dragons offer if it’s all about the money.
People will mention Sonny Bill but he was a different situation to Manu as he could come off the bench, No one in their right mind will play Manu off the bench .
Also sets a dangerous precedent that the league can’t afford.

I can’t see the NRL agreeing to this. Also, I can hardly wait for all the rorter / sombrero / cheating comments to come.

the only way they could stop it would be to refuse to register his contract when he came back which is the same as letting one of the games best players go to union permanently.

they cant stop him from going in the first place, he'll be off contract, he can sign with whoever he wants.

Didn't the NRL change the rules so that someone who only plays part of the season is accounted for the entire year in the salary cap? e.g. if Manu plays half the season for $500k the NRL will deduct $1m from our salary cap.

Good question. I’m sure someone here can google it!

Don't like it. The longer the saga goes on it seems we are going to lose Joey in some way or another.

Makes sense why we've signed a heap of wingers and outside backs.

Manu to Jap Rugby and Max Jorgensen to the Roosters.

                    Make it make sense !

I’m not a fan either, we are now expecting Manu to play professional sport for 10 months straight , and still be fully fit?

if he wants the money, let him chase it, but do it with the one club either way.

We have no idea what his thoughts are in these regards, It could be just his management or the media making an issue out of it.

But if the money we are offering isn’t enough he can go to the Dragons or wherever as there are always good up and coming layers on the horizon for a lot less.

That young guy Robert Toia looks to be a real chance in making the grade.good of both feet, damned hard to stop, has a fantastic fend and can find the line. He reminds me of a young Lattrell.

They didn't allow Benji Marshall to do this, but he was still under contract with the Tigers. Manu, being off contract, is able to sign with Japanese Rugby. Their season starts in Mid December and finishes in late May.

The NRL would put a value on Manu despite what the Roosters may sign him for the remainder of 2025. I don't think it would be a 12-month value for salary cap purposes as Manu is not under contract for the whole 12-month period.

He would miss roughly 7 months or so of the NRL season, which includes the pre-season, so for 2025, his salary cap value would be 5 months. I would assume

i.e., if the NRL values Manu at $900k (75k per month), his 5-month 2025 contract value would be 375k for salary cap purposes.

Talk here of the salary cap. I loathe it. The income generated by the NRL and its various partners is astronomical in comparison to the paltry player payments for a 27 regular game competition
aside from the farcical publicity matches/series that the games admin also benefits. The salary cap publicity spiel to keep a competition even is complete bullshit due to the broadcast draw rather than a competition draw.

NRL HQ were skeptical about Jack Wighton signing with Souffs for only $750k 2024/25 then $900k 2026/27 when clearly a player of his calibre who can play in the halves is worth more than that. Souffs have reassured the NRL that he will play his footy in the centres. Me thinks Cody Walker will play 7 with Wighton at 6 when the dust settles as Lachlan Ilias couldn't run a Shi t show. Let's see what happens.
