  • Rugby powerbroker’s ‘cold feet’ over Suaalii deal as Robbo’s heart-to-heart revealed

Not sure how accurate this is, but watch this space one.

Speculation has emerged Joseph Suaalii’s $5 million contract with Rugby Australia could be scrapped amid news he was welcome back at the Roosters after the deal expired.

That is according to the SMH who are reporting the rugby powerbrokers who tabled the bumper contract are reportedly getting “cold feet”.

What complicates the deal even further is where the funds are being pulled from for his salary worth over $1.5 million-per-season.

Not much rugby can do about it unless he changes his mind. We wont have space for him in 2025 unless we unload some wingers or Teddy changes position

I can't see rugby being able to do much about the deal unless Suaalii pulls out of the deal.
I can't see him agreeing to give up millions, what we can offer him is nowhere near what the rugby offer is.

Well, they could give him 600k compensation per year to cover the difference between his ludicrous Rugby salary and what the Roosters can afford to pay him. In the process, they could save themselves about $3m.

I am beginning to think this is what Joe and the Roosters are angling for. The “I’m coming back in 2028” line is designed to pressure the ARU into cutting their losses.

Cant see how we would have the money to keep him even if Rugby chipped in 600k

Does the resignation of Hamish McLennan have any impact?

1985: 1 try vs Parramatta, 1 try vs Manly, 1 try vs Wests, 2 tries vs Souffs
1986: 2 tries vs Illawarra, 1 try vs Balmain, 2 tries vs Norths.

He would have to take a pay cut to remain with the Chooks, and the NRL admin would have to probably provide some sort of approval/dispensation given the circumstances.

Watch the other clubs go ballistic once this gets approved!! HAHA

I'm glad that sorting out what's wrong with Australian yawnion ahead of the next world cup is not my problem.

Love how Waugh's backflipped from his predecessor's tactics of taunting the NRL with their 'we have a war-chest and will be poaching lotsa your players - suck it up children!!!' to 'we have always over-spent money we don't have and it's a farking joke... this NEEDS to stop and we're certainly not gonna try to poach other league players!'

We have very few players signed beyond 2024 ... IIRC the current number is about 12. If it comes to pass that he wants to stay and not go to Rugby, the money can be found, albeit at someone else's expense.

This goingto get real good..to get rid of him they have to offer a pay out ..no other way I assume .Then NRL gives their dispensemsation..and we sign him salary cap free,,Uncle Nick you truly are themaster thats why your a smart C%$T and Ima dumb C75T

the fact that Nick publicly said Joseph is coming back to us after his union stint is no doubt part of the grand plan. I mean that is something Nick would normally not make public and keep in confidence. But to publicly say that, has got to make you think .... its all part of NP moving the chess pieces around the board.

If he plays with us in 2025 and say the ARU pays half of his salary the NRL would not allow us to put him under the cap at half price.
It would still be at his current rate at minimum.
Not many are happy we are paying him $800K (???) next year. So if he stayed will anyone be happy if it still costs us that much under the cap?

I think we should let him go. He's good but he's not worth the silly money that he's on. That money should be spent elsewhere!
